best wheel and rims to get for all round use and cheap ass possable thanks in advance

Cheap is very subjective, there must be hundreds of tire wheel combinations available, Axial, RPM and many others offer wheels that fit both 14 and 17 mm hexes, as for tires most 3.2 3.8 and 40 series will work also as long as you use the correct wheel for them just search e bay and find something you like and post a link so we may help you decide which one is what you desire.....

Duratrax 3.8 Hatchet MT or
Duratrax 3.8 Six Pack MT or
proline big joes 40s
17 mm hexes idealy to thanks guys

well the duratrax come premounted on 17mm wheels so those are a direct fit to a savage, Prolines come either mounted or unmounted so the choice is yours to make, none of them are "cheap" but they are all good choices

what would u recomend ????? and where the best place to buy in uk ??? or on the net for eather

eBay is always your friend for used but as Jam says some are not cheap. I have bought a number of wheelsets from Wheelspin Models - www.wheelspinmodels.co.uk as they have a pretty good selection and carry a decent amount of stock.

Depending on where you live, there is likely to be a model shop local to you and if they specialise in rc cars they will also be able to give you some more suggestions. Personally, I go for the look of the wheels and tyres so if you need ideas there is a separate thread where members have posted pictures of their setup.

I also have a set of these that I use from time to time which seem to do the trick on whatever surface I am running on

Many of the guys here run the Proline Trencher tires on their rigs, be forewarned they are wide and pretty heavy.... if you decide to go with anything new go 17mm hex and use the wheels with an offset to widen out your rig a bit....

I went for the Trencher X and as well as wide I got them on 1/2" offset wheels. The upshot of this is that they grip like crazy and I can front flip my Octane with heavy braking. At £70 for a full set they are not cheap though!

I have all my nitro trucks running 17mm hex drives and have several sets of mounted tires for them, these are Proline Mulchers on RPM 3.2 wide offset 17mm hex wheels...

These are Redcat wheels with 17mm hex and 3/4 inch offset running Losi SuperBolt ons in 420 series which is equal to 40 series

as you can see there are bunches to choose from as long as you know what you are looking at

Could also buy tires off other rigs on ebay. I run traxxas geode rims and tires on all 3 of my MT's. Although, I really wanted chevrons on the 3.8" rims but traxxas doesn't put those on anything that are 17mm.

However, traxxas 17mm rims have nubs in the hex that you have to cut out to work on savage hexes. In hindsight, I should have dremeled the hexes and gave that a try instead as HPI cast hexes do tend to be a bit ill fitting with rounded corners.

Are yall changing for better traction and lighter? Trying to understand the benefits of so many options and another 100 spent.

with 10 large nitro rigs in my fleet, I just changed them all to 17mm hexes so i can use any of my available tires on any of my nitro rigs, some are lighter some are heavy and luggy treads, but being able to run any on the trucks I have it just made sense to do this.....I usually run in a unkempt field so I use spikey, luggy tires there to get the most traction I can.....

I look for tires/rims with a strong sidewall that can handle bashing in a concrete skatepark. Also for a tread pattern/compound that can hold up to concrete use but still give decent traction in grass. I run in grass and concrete about 50% each on any given day, so having tires that can hold up to jumps in a skatepark, but still give decent forward bite in grass work the best for me.

These ones are not "cheap" but may do well. I may end up picking up a pair of these. They have a low profile sidewall and are belted for speed. You can never have too many tires and wheels :woot:

I saw those a month or two ago. Look like a decent tire. Almost nonexistent sidewall, so not sure how they would hold up to high impact on concrete, either really well or really bad. If they held up well, they would transfer all the energy to the shocks/arms/axle. Definitely be good for high speeds though. $40 a pair isn't too bad considering they are premounted/glued. Almost what I paid for the 3.8 chevrons and traxxas geode wheels. I paid $70 for the full set and had to clean/sand/glue them myself. For another $10... would be worth not doing that.

How much faster are they? Newbie here running stock stuff. Says no ballooning but when trucks cocked back and right front is ballooning that's more traction imo. I'm thinking with those tires in that situation the right front would just be spinning in air.

Well, no ballooning would make it more stable/predictable at high speeds and in the air. Also should help avoid blowouts when correcting in the air too.

Oh ok, i have alot of learning and testing to do haha. Wish I had a fat billfold to just play with stuff
