I'm having some trouble getting my truck tuned correctly. I finally got the idle set correctly so that the engine idles smooth without trying drive away. I'm trying to get the HS and LS set correctly now. When I get on the gas hard the truck seems to bog down. I tried leaning it out a little bit on the LSN without much luck. I reset the LSN and tried leaning out the HSN and it seemed a little bit better but the engine sounds like its breaking up and it sputters as its reaching top speed. Ive read the manual about a dozen times but its not very helpful. I've also watched the tuning videos but my engine doesnt sound quite the same as the one on the video. Anyone have any suggestions where I should start? Thanks in advance.

Thanks Jester. With your advice and the videos I started from scratch and got it running great now. What a difference the correct tuning makes.

Oh, and thanks for the welcome SAVAGESHAUN. You guys are a great help here.

Thanx SJ the vids help alot and Keithv i know how u feel wen u don't have someone to show u and u have to find out yourself

OK one more question on this. I don't have an infrared temp gun so I used my craftsman multimeter that does temp also. I placed the probe against the top of the glow plug. Will that give me an accurate reading? The first time I did it I got a temp around 300. Which I didnt think could be right since I didnt lean the engine out that much and I get a decent amount of smoke on acceleration. I tried making the LSN a little richer and tested the temp again and it seemed to be much lower. The outside temp here today was around 80. I only turned the LSN about an 8th of a turn. Could that make that much of a difference? Any thoughts?
Thanks

300 is way too hot, that truck should never be run over 250. The lsn is not going to make a major difference since thats only for idle. You should probably consider getting a temp gauge that is for rc cars. As fas performance goes, how is the truck's throttle response?

hey guys i was having the same prob wit temp and yes i agree that 300 is abit high but then i spove to some people in adelaide and they said to disregard the temp and tune to the car and its performance. so say the car is runnin at 250 i would say that the car is running hot but they say that if you don't have any throttle lag it is ok you also have to tune to the sound of the motor. this is only what i have been told and after i was told this i took off the temp and i have been running it to performance and its going strong.
hope this helps 😎

yes your exactly right!, don't tune by temps!!! you get to know how it should sound but do keep an eye on the temp. and usually the low speed once u get it set u don't even have to mess with it anymore! i tune my truck by sound and performance and as far as temps go i've heard of a truck running 300 and thats its "sweet spot" so to speak so i just use temp as a guideline! just always remember to have a nice trail of blue smoke during take off and alls good

thanx savageshaun
yea i can tell the sweet spot of my truck and some days if its the weather abit hot you can change it and it still runns perfectly but i will admit it takes a while to be able to tell but if you want to get your best tune i would cahnge to a tuned pipe because you can also hear it hit the sweet spot because of the engine note
hope this helps
