Why does my savage get stuck in gear? If I pull the throttle all the way it shifts great. If i take off slow it will not shift. What can i do to fix this problem.

not sure what could be going on but i wanted to take the time to welcome u to the forum!!!

jeremy it sounds like the tranny just needs to be adjusted. do you have the manual? if you do follow the adjustment guide in it and you will have it shifting well in no time

welcome to the best savage forum on the net.

Welcome to the forum. Not sure exactly what you mean by it not shifting if you take off slow. Still not shifting once your at full throttle? Before you adjust the transmission. Make sure you have it tuned nice. It won't shift if it don't have the rpm up where it needs to be. Another thing. If you changed the spur gear of clutch bell you might need to adjust the transmission. Or if you changed the tires. Sometimes that makes it not shift at the propper shift points. But I'd make sure its tuned good first if nothings been changed. Then if it still don't shift. Go to adjusting the transmission. Good luck. Hope this helped a Lil bit. Tc. Happy bashn

Thanks for the fast replies. I did adjust the shift points on the transmission. I have tuned it up. This problem has been there from the start. It will shift fine it your going full throttle. Its just not shifting when you drive slow then hit the gas.

Welcome to the forum!!! it's not going to shift at low speeds, RMPs have to be up there for it to shift.. why would you want it to shift so early?

I'm wondering if your slipper nut backed off a bit.

oh & welcome to the forum bro, glad youve joined us here rockout

I don't want it to shift early. I just want it to be able to shift when I am driving slow then punch the gas. When I'm just putting around then speed up it will just stay in first gear. I have checked the spur nut. And thanks again for the help. Sorry I didn't explain before. By the way I have a savage XL 5.9 with a 3 speed trans. It is completely stock.

Sounds like the same problem i have with my stock XL, i have run through nearly a gallon on it. I have had this pretty much since the start too. When i go from neutral to full throttle it gears as it should, but when i pull the throttle slowly up to full gas it wont shift gears it just drives in 1st gear, if i loose the throttle a little so the rpm goes down i suddenly gears to 2nd. Anyone got any clue whats causing this?

check your slipper nut bro, its a common cause of this.

i have tightened the slipper nut once, and it did get better, but after a few tanks it started slipping again, maybe the nut went back a little. but when i tightened it the first time it really looked like the spring was a compressed as it can be, I'm just afraid I'm gonna overtighten it and mess up something.
