Savage 25 engine starts but no movement

Hello,

Savage 25 starts ok and did run for about 100 yards but just stopped. Checked brake and clutch gears all ok. Noticed that when I now turn the drive cog the wheels don’t turn. Tried direct at the linkage rods and they allow me to turn the wheels. When turned, front wheels turn the back wheels and back wheels turn the front. When the drive shaft that connects to the engine is rotated, neither front or back wheels turn and it feels like the gears are not engaged in the gearbox.

Thinking this could be the gearbox it’s self. 3 speed fitted 3/4 years ago which has worked perfect.

What am I missing pls and what should I try next.

That and the other tests that you did would have me pulling my Savages transmission and cracking it open.

It could be several things, and you need to play doctor to figure it out.
The one-way bearing may have gone bad or need a film of one-way oil (first gear not engaging) or some gear or gears may have failed - or even something else.

My buddy had a hardened gear chew up the monkey metal gear that it was mated to.
He cheaped out and only installed one hardened gear instead of upgrading both.

You just don't know until you dive on in.

So I removed the gearbox and cracked it open and found the issue. I have a reverse module installed into the gearbox and the connecting shaft between that module and the gearbox cogs as sheered off. I've included picture that show the brakeage and I now need to figure out if the part in question is to do with the gearbox or if its to do with the reverse kit.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I don't recognize that part - and I don't have reverse on any of my Savages, so I'll go out on a limb and say it's reverse module centric.

This is on eBay and it looks to me like the parts you are dealing with.

Your broken part is from the early reverse units . there is another gear that is thicker which was made for the 5.9 savage. The shaft part is larger and the other part it is pushed into has a larger hole to match the larger shaft. this part will fit in the older box. I had the part number , i will post it if i find my notes. most all parts are out of stock now. good luck finding one.
