Hey everyone,

I have a savage 25 with the stock 2spd tranny. But, I have a feeling something isnt right. When rolling my savage there seems to be some sort of grinding....should there be grease in the transmission because there isnt any in mine. when pushing the car forward it seems to be rough. the differentials are fine. Theres just some rolling resistance (and the brakes arent on either)Any tips are appreciated.

thanks.

NO LUBE IN THE TRANNY!
It'll ruin the clutch on the 2nd speed.

Has the truck been run in the wet?
May have some crud in the tranny case...Open up the adjustment holes and spray a load of WD40 (or any water dispersant-something that won't leave a residue, so nothing with ptfe or teflon) and give it a good spray, slosh it about and let it drain out the adjustment holes.

Are the wheels binding, poss wheel bearings?

I'm sure the others will chime in with other ideas..

Does your truck have the Dual Stainless Steel Breaks on it?? If so this is more than likely your problem. When I had them on both of my savages they would seem to bind when rolling it around. You can tell quickly if you turn it on and pull the trigger for throttle does the binding go away??

I have now switched to the Dual Red Fiber disks and love them.

Okay, when I first had my Savage X RTR it had a 2 speed (so long ago....) and I had that issue once. One of the plastic gears has 3 screws going through it. All 3 of these had backed out and were chewing groves in the alloy of the gear next to it. It would be worth taking the gears out and having a quick look.

Yeah this was my issue too, only i saw the aluminum shavings in the case long before it did any real damage, but was allot of the shavings stuck in the teeth of the gears. replaced the clutch gear holder w/owb and used white T/L and now it seems to be holding.

Thanks Larsenracing!

Turns out the dual stainless steel brakes were suddenly catching ....the tranny is fine....BUT there is something else....the spur gear isnt seating right....it seems to be warped....it slightly wobbles....and inturn makes the mesh screw up on cb/sc....i don't know why its not eating right i looked at it and everything is flush......but the main problem is fixed with the rolling forward binding/catching.....thanks everyone for your input!

The spur gears always wobble a little. Just make sure the teeth for the spur arent hitting the body of the clutch bell.
