Anybody know where I can get a roto start back plate for s28 engine in a Savage? The ones of eBay fit but you cannot position it to avoid chassis. The HPI item is offset so you can get roto shaft in. UK based. Thanks

I take it you have the old savage bulk heads & shock towers and not the Savage X ones. These are the ones found on the Savage 21.25,3.5. On the Savage X this assembly was modified. If so you will need the one with the input in the upper left corner and not the one with it in the centre left.

You will need the HPI F/G series starter back plate #120277, This is the latest version and uses a 14mm OWB and not he 12mm used on early models. You can purchase the 14mm OWB and just switch out the 12mm.

Another way is to file a groove in the diff bulk heads with a round file at the point the starter rod fouls the bulk head, this is in the centre where the ally rod passes through the plastic. I found you only need to file it down until the ally is exposed. I've done this fix before and it works well just looks abit unsightly. not really an issue unless your Savage is a shelf queen.
If you look at pictures 2 & 3 this is the one I modded to allow for the roto plate with the input in the centre left side. It now has the correct back plate on it, as you can see the filed groove is offset to the left abit. Which is where the input on the roto plate would have been.

Wheelspin Models have them in stock at the moment.

Thanks for info, there is no way I can make this one fit as it goes straight into the black crossbrace. I will order the one from Wheel spin and hopefully that will do the trick. Have been away from Savages for a fair while so a bit out of date. Just hate pull starts!!

How thick is that plastic crossbrace that goes across under exhaust, that is the part blocking the roto shaft rod. From your picture it looks as though you cut a lot away. Thanks
