Hi All-

Way back when they were new, I bought an SS kit and built it, rather slowly, probably over a year or two. I got the entire truck built, and started the process of breakin, but then life got in the way and it got shelved. I've recently gotten back into RC (both nitro and electric) and would really like to "finish" the SS but as you can imagine, that S-25 is not turning over. What are my options? Can I buy an engine that will more or less drop in? Should I pull the engine and try to disassemble it and soak it in anything? I've seen a few parts on ebay, would like to avoid ebay if at all possible though.

Thanks for any direction on this!

Pour some 3 in 1 oil or penetrating oil in through the exhaust outlet & a few drops down where glow plug fits & let it soak for an hour or so. After that try gently turning it over with pull start & eventually it will loosen up.
Will have to clean carburettor out & I would replace fuel line/air filter with new!
Good luck! 👍🏻

Thanks for the replies! I also emailed HPI and to my surprise got a pretty thorough answer, which was more or less what you guys suggested - they said use nitro.

I pulled the motor so I could get the pull start back on (no clue where the roto-start module is) and took the head and the gasket off and filled the cylinder with penetrating oil (piston was far enough down to let oil into the bottom parts of the engine too.) Waited an hour... nothing. Put more in, waited 2 more hours, nothing. Then I went to the nitro, and went to sleep. Went down there this morning.... and.... she is turning over! I'm so excited. It's struggling a little at the bottom of the stroke, but I think I can get it worked out now. Need some glow plugs - are there any "cheap" ones out there good for this engine? Also gonna need fuel lines, a new air filter... and I guess a plug igniter too if I can't find any of mine. I'm stoked though.

Good luck with it! I have a 20 y o 25 in my garage to , lost some screws etc, one day i ll make it run again to,but electric is so much easier and quiter, but nothing can beat the sound of a nitro 2 speed engine 🥳
