I recently upgraded my steering servo to a hi tech 645mg ... ITS AWESOME
but Iam not sure if I just need to get used to it or what b/c my steering is VERY touchy. I can hardly control this darn thing. Does anyone else have this issue ?

Lol I have a 645MG in my buggy, I don't think its that good..........could be faster but oh well.

Assuming that you've already setup the servo to be zero'd and centered,...

What size rims and tires you running?... What kind of TX?

There are three things that come to mind that could help, in this order.
Try one step at a time and check for improvement before going to the next step.

1, Make sure that your front end toe-in is setup equally and not too extreme.
If you have road tires on, go for a 1/2 degree toe-in or less.

2.Reduce some tension at the steering servo abit and see if there's any improvement.
An over tightened servo saver can be very twitchy.

Try to find the sweet spot for the servo saver. Once you found the spot, put a drop of
thread lock on the servo savers threads.
This will preserve you setting by preventing unwanted movement.

3. If your TX has end-point adjustments, reduce the end points on the steering abit.

These things if propperly adjusted should help.

Keep in mind that unless you'lve upgraded all your steering linkage and steering
arms, the savage by nature is an off road truck and doesn't respond in a precise mannor
on the street.
Does your servo arm have more than one hole in it?

Try a hole closer to the servo screw. Just a thought.

I am looking at getting a JR servo, LHS has a 400+oz servo for $115.......

SJ is there a sensitivity adjustment on your controller for the steering?

The stock controllers have this .

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so..... How they holding up?..lol

Well now....If I'd known you was using them tires your running,... That would of explained the squirly turnning issue.
Those Maxx tires are small... Thats gonna make your truck turn on a dime!!

Not to mention... People will throw rocks at you from a far distance for putting those things on your truck...lol

Just kidding , bro.lol
What happened to the stock tires?

got a really good deal on them. Iam building another savage so I need another set of rims and trires.. I sill have the stock set .. I like how they turn, At high speed I can crank the Tuck sideways and not matter how hard I try the truck WONT flip ... the tires are holding up nice .....ahhhhhh the rims on the other hand not so great ..... 5 tanks allready have a crack in one of the rims ........:hardlaugh: :hardlaugh: :hardlaugh: :hardlaugh: :hardlaugh: :hardlaugh: ......... but yea have a good laugh on me it's all good

No worries SJ..lol
Don't feel alone, bro...I've got a set also that came off my E-Maxx as original equipment.

Of course I took them off and made ash trays out of them...lol

Actually, they do work pretty good for skidding around and such.

If I was you,... I'd put a 47/20 combo in your truck so you don't over wind the mill. That will also get you some better top end.

47/20 what the????? my surefire wasn't meant to go that fast holly cow .. w/ that combo you better have some extra cash floating around for new clutch shoes

Yea... with regular tire sizes.. I agree.
But them T-Maxx tires your sport'in,.. they are small enough to need a taller gear ratio.

What ratio are you runnin now?... And how quick do you get to top end?
With small tires, you can afford to compensate with taller gear ratio's.

You should be able to go faster than 21 miles an hour in third gear.lol

OK... Maybe a 20T is too high for your comfort but a 18T is smart if you ask me.

yea I hit top speed pretty fast ... and I can't wheelie any more the tires just spin... mabey thats why Iam having problems w/ my steering not sure

but iam running 49/17 right now

Ya know... SJ?
I'm sittin here looking at a T-Maxx tire and rim.

It may be a tad larger than I remembered .lol
But it's still smaller than the standard tire and it probably doesn't balloon
like the hpi tire does... I guess you can figure this out on you own.
Just keep a load on the mill.
For big blocks,...The higher it winds,.. The shorter the life.

yea I might give that a shot .. I might try that w/ the mip clutch set up thanks doobee

As far as the steeriing goes, the T-Maxx tire is a tractor tire if ya ask me.
Might be difficult to get it to proform like the tires your use to.
They will limit the proformance of the truck in the higher speed area but can be fun to bash with. Just know the limitations and work around them till you get a set you preffer.
T-Maxx tires are more popular with rock crawler trucks these days.
They put the treads on backwards to get a good crawling traction.

yea I mounted them backwards the first time they have a good bite to them.. but at high speed they can be a little squirrely

I've got a ton on questions about how to install a 645mg ...

how do you know it zero's / centered? plug it in a power it up and set the transmitter to center?

which of the supplied servo horns is the one to use?

i put in an ace ds 1015, this thing is crazy fast on response, it has enough torque to pick up the truck on it's wheel when on it's side.

jammer, i used the small black horn supplied w/ the 645 it had 4 small holes
i used the 3rd hole out . i centered the front wheels then powered the servo
checked to make sure it was workn then hold the front tires striaght and slipped it on did you use the rubber gromits that came with it?
sj this servo it very touchy it took me some getting used to i do like the noticble response
