i've seen some savages with really short receiver antennas and it does look better than a long *** antenna sticking straight up from the truck. so are you guys just cutting down the tube to make it shorter and just stuffing the excess slack into the receiver box or are you actually cutting the wire its self. if you are stuffing the excess wire into the receiver box does that have a big affect on the radio range? thanks

most of the short antennas you see are from 2.4ghz radios. They use different frequency's so there is no need for the long antenna so the receives for the 2.4 have very Short antennas. They are nice because they stay out of the way but 2.4 is the bomb just because there is a whole lot less chance your going to have a run a way.

O Ya there also nice because they are digital and have a much better response time to the servos and back especially on digital servos. 2.4 also removes about all the twitching as well.

I run all Futaba 3PM FASST 2.4 systems and love them.

I use an M8 with a Spektrum Module as well. If you have a stock AM or FM radio you can still run a short antenna if you wrap the ire around the receiver a couple times.

you can shorten it by wavelengths 1/2 wave 5/8ths wave ect its a math equation. but it is already down for 27meg band full wave is around 102 inches

Actually Bank 102 inches is a quarter wave for the 27MHz band. That's why some of what I work on uses 30 ft antennas. I have tried everything with the 27 and 75 band antennas on my Savages, and they need to be as high and outside the body to get full range.

i asked the same question bro. while i was saving up for my Futaba 2.4Ghz, i simply cut a few, very small, pcs of fuel line and put them over the antenna tube to hold the excess antenna wire to it in a straight line. then i put the antenna under my stocker roll cage & attached with a zip tie & viola! not antenna tube sticking through the body.
.
btw- i never noticed any difference in Tx-Rx reception. But, upgrade to a 2.4Ghz when your funds will allow bro, you will love it.:jamout:

well on mine i managed to do a good ten foot slide on asphalt with no shell...well lets just say the wire doesnt hold up too well when stuck between the roll bar and the aspahlt...so i was suck with a 5 inch antena...so i found a piece of 22 gauage speaker wire..CCA...copper clad aluminum...to be exact..i soldered the speaker wire to the end of the existing wire...its about a foot and a half long...i simply loosly zip tie it to the frame under the body in various places...i haven't noticed a drop in reception...then again i just bash in reltivily close courters...i will usally magae to flip it befor it gets out of range..lol

yep....when i had the stock Tx & Rx, i zipped tied the tube under my antenna to prevent that problem.. sounds like your method got the result you were after ... if your just bashin' & not racing you should be fine & not notice much difference ... if you send the savage out too far, you'll get into depth perception issues ... may want to grab a fail safe if you don't' have 1 already.. :resp:
