hey there is a savvy 25 on my local classifides site and the guy says that the rear diff gears might be striped and its up for 300 and it comes with 2 ignightors a mix bottle and a 4 liter jug of nitro fuel and some other misolaneious parts. what i want to know is if its worth it seeing as though it was up for sale at 450 to begin with and now hes droped it to 350 and i knocked him down to 300, and i was wondering how hard is it to change/replace/buy new diff gears??? i really hope i can get it if it is worth it:Xfingers:

It's hard for us to say if it's worth it or not without seeing it but from what I hear it sounds to me it would be better to spend a little more and get a new one. That way you don't inherit someones problem child.
Dave

i have a 25 and it is not that bad to do the diff it is beteer just to put the x style diff in cause they are easy acess also u need to do 4 bevel gears and alum diff cups crash knows someone on ebay the sells the x style diffs as a whole assembly

Look HERE , A brand new X SS kit can be had for $344.99. This kit comes with many upgrades over the 25 truck. However you will need to buy the electronics still. In your post it didn't state whether he was including the electronics or not, if he is it may be an ok deal.

i guess in the end its really up to you but for the same price maybe a bit more you can buy it new and have the comfort of knowing you have a warranty

no i cant i just got it down to 300 and its brand new from my lhs, like only 3 months old sooo, and did u see the extra parts it comes with??? the only reason hes selling it is because he is always in bed now that he had a knee surgery so he cant get out so he says

Well after seeing it I would still suggest investing your well earned money into a new one. It says there is nothing wrong with it yet you say he told you it "may" have diff problems? Plus it looks like he is having a hard time selling it-
the price keeps dropping. A newer X type one has many upgrades and benefits like the warranty. Just my 2 cents. In the end its all up to you. Good luck!
Dave

ya see the person at the nitro rc store that is in my town is a total **** and says that its 600 for their mid class savage like the border line decent truck like better than a 25 and less than a x so and also I'm new and all the trucks that they sell arnt rtr so i would have to build it myself and there is no hope in hell for me to do that,so so far this is my best option here i think, and see i can have this like this weekend instead of if i order one it'll take like 2 weeks for it to get here soooo

Ok buddy-its just that a kit is good even for beginners in my opinion because you learn much more about it by building it compared to an RTR. And I know how you feel wanting it now and asap and all but I would hate to see you get something that needs work before you can play with it. Whichever way you go we are here to help you.
Dave

thanks man but the guy said that its pretty easy to change them and that the costs are minimal, is he right or is he bs ing me????

I would hate to say that he would be bs ing you- Sure ,it's easier for some but can be a pain to others-depends on your mechanical abilities and tool availability. There are a lot of threads here on proper shimming and building and like I said we are here to help you. It may be tougher for you to do because you said you would have a hard time building a kit so I'm not sure of your capability's. Maybe you can deal with him for him to make all repairs before you buy it? If he tells you to take a hike it could be a blessing in disguise,on the other hand he may do that so it wont hurt to ask!
Dave

ya i have build a 79 xr 80 from the frame up and its running now and i bought it in october and finished it last month so i can build stuff and i am machanicaly inclined its just I'm unfimiliar with the truck and don't quite know how it works so...

but have you ever heard of xmods??? well theyer a 1/28 scale rc car and i studyed the instuctions on how it all works and how its disassembled and reassembled. is this all in the manuel??? if it is i should be fine right???

ok thanks this is all hepling me get prepared for this ill mostlikely buy the truck fix it and be out bashing in like 1 or 2 days hopefully cuz the nitro shop opens up on tuesday cuz they have od hours and they are onpen tuesday to saturday and closed sunday and momday

I think it would of been better to order a new rtr online from towerhobbies or somewhere and waited the 2 weeks. It just seemed odd that it took so long to sale that thing, and yet there could be problem with the differentials....

Well good luck, hope everything works out ok.

well i got it and it runs and everything but the rear gears are messed so I'm gonna get some new gears and putem in and it should hopefully be running by friday lol

lol i allready have a 4 gear spider kit on the way for the rear do i need to upgrade the front if i do the rear???

ok but if i do thr rear with the 4 spider setup from the x do i need to do the same kinda thing to the front???

Hi, wow I wish I would have seen this earlier I would have trie my best to convince you into a new one, you would have been much better off (new bigger engine and many mny upgrades), like the others said but that is water under the bridge, I say this because if you though building it might be a problem well with the old style diff case's you will pretty much have to take the whole truck apart as it is just about the first step in building one. If it was just the waiting for a new one, well your probably going to have to wait for parts now anyway. on the bright side once you get it going you will love it and have a blast.

for your question you don't have to get both right now if you don't want, the difference is the case, not the gears on the x style the diff case opens from the front and rear it is like 6 screws to open it with the old case it is well almost the whole thing has to be taken apart, you would be best buying those diffs posted above and install them while you have it apart.

another thing, I doubt the spider gears are the problem probably the problem is the ring and pinion gear (someone correct me if I am wrong), if it the case I would still buy those diff's listed.

no i took the skid plates off and the ring and pinion are fine,

also i was rolling it around the house while on the phone and pushed it around for about a hour and a half and then put it away the next day i went to take the rear tires off to start disassembleing things and i moved the left rear tire and it grabed and moved the front! so then i tried the right side and it did the same so i guess it well just kinda fixed its self lol i know it sounds strange but it runs sooooo great now, oh ya the guy never listed the hpi upgrades that are on it! so there is the dual disc brakes, preformance air intake and filter, and reverse module

You pushed it around your house for an hour and a half??? lol Vroom vroom!
Sorry-just had to give you a hard time for that one! I wouldn't think it fixed itself though.Did you look closely at every ring AND pinion tooth?
Dave

ya really ......those things DO NOT "fix itself" !!!!!
check all bearings and gears...... including the bevel(spider) gears inside the diff cup!!!!!!!!!! Had those grenade in my brother in-law's savage last weekend....lol the rear drive seemed to sart working again after about 5 mins of wtf lets run it any way .......so when we got home we pulled it apart (thank god we swapped all the parts a few weeks ago to basically convert his savage 25 into a savage x) found the spider gears so badly destroyed that only one gear was left in one piece(with teeth missing) and pieces were stickin throught the plastic cup....... luckily i had an old plastic cup in my tool box..... and i had just recieved a CEN GENESIS center dif-lock in the mail on friday (lucky ebay win at 75 cents +shipping).... was gonna experiment on my xss.... so i tried it out in his savage instead and guess what? IT WORKED!!! lol and he loves the full posi on the rear..drifts real nice!
Typical of the spirit of this hobby huh give away the new part ya just got yesterday to get someone else up and running again
