Just got some nice new 'edit' pipe sets for the Savage in today, and do they look sweet! Talking to the trade rep i understand these to be an evolution of the origional HPI Alloy tuned pipe ('edit' is a HPI brand name for those of you that don't know).

So here's they are:

Two pipe sets ready to go to new homes, bless...
...look carefully at the box art, its actually the origional HPI Tuned pipe on the cover!

Editboxopen.jpg

The view your greeted with when opening the box.

Editcontence.jpg

Little snap of the contence, you get one pipe and manifold (duh!), 3 manifold to pipe springs (so don't loose any), one manifold securing spring, and one black silicone gasket.... oh and some stickers (very important these!).

two sets of securing points on the manifold provide two positions for mounting.

EditItaly.jpg

All the fast stuff comes from Italy, so you just know its gonna be a fast pipe!

editstinger.jpg

Many found that fitting a sleave inside the 10mm stinger of the HPI Alloy tuned pipe to reduce its diameter to about 8mm improved the topend, this pipe comes with a 8mm stinger, glad someones paying attention...

editinsideback.jpg

And a sneaky shot inside reveals the internal baffle, its conical shaped, starts about halfway down the pipe (where the seam is on the outside) and tapers towards the front and is fixed behind the front mounting point.

editcompare.jpg

And finally a side by side comparison with the origional on my XSS, the overall setup is about a centemeter shorter, so either stretch the mounting spring or get a coat-hanger wire 😀
(This is more down to the shape of the manifold, the pipe is about the same lenght).

If you want to know how the pipe performs you'll have to ask Riddler, he's gonna be one of the test pilots! 😱

edit: someone fix the spelling error on the title, my 2 yr old hit the keyboard while i was typing it in!

They look very nice, be sure to give a good write up as to performance when you get to running them.

(I took care of the spelling error for ya)

I'm just the courier, no $ to get one of my own, how sad is that! I'll let you know how the guys get on with them.

Be sure to let us know how it works - I like the look and am interested to see if it helps the performance over the original...

Should definatly be a step up from the HPI polished pipe, alot of the little mods i did on mine like the stinger reduction have been included in this pipe, the baffle looks about the same. The origional polished is a great pipe for the money and to improve on that will be something.

Lunar I've been looking for a place to buy one of these and can't seem to find one. Do you have a website where I can buy one? Their home page doesn't have an option to purchase any of their products (how silly is that?!)

Only thing i can suggest is to send them a message, JE spares is based over here in the UK and the owner Josh is a nice guy to deal with with, promptly replying to emails etc, iv ordered a few bits from them in the past.

Heres a link to the same pipe but on their website not ebay and its 10gbp dearer than their offer on ebay http://www.jespares.com/radio-contr...exhausts/edit-tuned-polished-pipe-savage.html

Just found this, sorry, again its in the UK, but it is the pipe/header combo w/hardware, but is currently out of stock http://www.modelsinmotion.co.uk/product.asp?productid=24762&catCode=441&tamiya=0

Others places in the UK do seem to have stocked it at some point but is now discontinued, i.e http://www.podiumrc.co.uk/product-207484.php

Wow thanks for all your help londoner! I repped ya.

No problem mate, glad to help, i knew id seen this pipe in my searches for various other parts, just a matter of remembering where i saw it 😎

hey Londoner.........by the pics of that side by side....... it looks like the XL pipe hanger would be perfect for that if you wanted something solid.

Thats what i was thinking Soulja, but ultimately il be buying a pipe for my LRP .30 i have on the way, iv had my sights set on an ofna 086, but cant seem to get one in the uk without paying well over the odds for it, so i guess my question would be do you think this pipe would work well with the LRP .30 as its originally designed for a savage .28?

And would it be that much of an improvement over the HPI polished tuned pipe i already have, as they are very similar execpt the smaller stinger diameter of the edit pipe? enough to justify buying it over the 086? Sorry just the questions that are rolling round in my head lol

I won't be doing a review as such. The pipes were bought along time ago for some local guys who wanted them. I can give you observations from bashes were were at.

One fella had an STS.28, tuning got harder for him but when it was dialed in it seemed okay, seemed to have more torque according to him. I'd only recommended an STS pipe for an STS engine though.

Another was fitted to a K4.6 in place of the HPI polished pipe. It ripped! easily made him one if not the fastest in our car park drag race sessions, it was a fairly stock savage apart from the pipe so there was not a lot of weight to slow it down, therefore difficult to judge torque and bottom end. Seemed fine.

The pipes are well made but raw alum, not coated or anodised. Definitely a step up from the HPI number but only worth getting IMHO if you get the header with it or have a header you can use. If your spending the $$$ on an LRP engine you might as well get the pipe which is known to work for it, find someone to import it for you and help out with the customs and such - that's my opinion.

i think he's meaning its a 2007 thread, lol but could have been a bit nicer about it i think.......
