Hello everyone. I've just purchased a savage x 4.6 rtr. love the truck...until...(did the search as well)

i took the truck to hobbypeople after the break in period in the manual. the guy tuned it and it was great. it had quick acceleration and good top end. I played with it a bit, took a few jumps and flipped it over a few times, but the engine never died out or stalled. so i turn it off.

a few hours later i try to get it started and there was no firing sound. you can hear the roto start going and going, but no "spark" sound you always get. So i have three plug ignitors, and it was not the problem. i took out the plug and tested it, it lit bright red/orange. since the plug was out, i thought it might be flooded, so i cracked it a few times and put the plug back in. same problem, so i just swapped plugs and used all 3 ingitors, and none worked. same problem. it keeps turning, but no sound of the firing.

i don't know what else it could be. i appreciate any help.

well first of all welcome to the forum!! secondly I'm not 100% sure what would cause that but i know someone will post some advice here shortly for ya I'm sure, so again welcome to the forum!!

sounds like the OWB (one way bearing) in the back of the engine went out. when you are turning the engine over with the roto is the crank turning (the flywheel will spin)? if not, then the owb is shot, if it is, you may have internal problems.

thanks for the warm welcome. I suspected as much..but i was skeptical that would break with just 5 tanks. oh well. I am going to open her up right now and let you guys know the verdict. thanks for the help guys!

first off, Welcome to HPISF Silver GS. gonna ask a few basic questions:
1. can you see the fuel getting into the carb with no air bubbles?
2. are you turning up the throttle 'trim' on your Tx when trying to start?
3. how cold is it outside & how cold is the mill when you try to start?

I'm gonna take a guess & say turn up your throttle/idle a bit & maybe lean it out a bit till you get it up & runnin, then you can tune & rip.

Welcome to HPISF!. You came to the right place to get your questions answered. take out the glow plug, look into the engine and turn the engine over with the roto. If you see the piston going up and down, the internals of the motor should be good. Not too sure where you live but has it gotten colder in your area since it was tuned? Weather has a big affect on these motors. Richen up your HSN about 1/4th of a turn and try again. Also if its cold where you are at, use a heat gun or hair dryer and warm the block up first. Good luck and keep us posted.

thanks guys, you guys are very helpful. i'm going to try to answer everyones post... I live in s. california, doesnt get less thank 40-50 degrees here. i took out the glow plug and the internal is moving up and down. i tried the hair dryer, didnt work. I can see the gas going in w/o air bubbles. the engine always turns, but the difference is you don't hear that "crank" or "firing up" sound. if that makes sense.

hope this helps you guys help me.

thanks again

hi welcome to the forum, these guys and girls on this forum really know their stuff its just an idea but i had trouble getting my 4.6 savage to start
it was the lid on the fuel tank it was not closing all the way so the tank was not getting the pressure it needs try pushing and holding the lid down and try and start it

welcome from up in canada, this is just a sugestion check the pipe tip and see if its pluged i had the same problem there was some grass in the tip and it wouldent start .mabye an air leak in the engine too?

ok all of a sudden the car started. and it runs stronger than ever..don't know what it was. only difference is i think the engine dried out after sitting in the sun for a few hours...now today when the steering servo went out of whack is a completely different story.

thanks for all the help guys@!
