Ok here goes..........I have my buddy's savage and he said if I can get it running he will bash with me....So I gotta get it going. First things first, its getting fuel, when I turn it over I can see the fuel go to the carb. BUT, when I'm turning the rotostart, the wheels are moving and its trying to take off on me! Where should I start at so I can get this thing going, please help guys!

id start by pulling the engine out and checking the clutch shoes, they may have seized to the bell. that is the only thing i can thing of that would make the tires try to spin when you start it.

If the wheels are turning when you use the roto start it sounds like it is trying to startup with the clutches engaged.....can someone else confirm this?

My guess is that he is running alu. shoes and they got very hot and are adhered to the clutch bell. The springs possable you to hot and decided to become disformed.

so pull the engine, and take off the clutch shoes and remount them?? What am I looking for when you say they are engaged? anything in particular I can think of? Ill check back later, thanks for the quick responses......right now I have to hit the gym, then Ill work on his truck..... priorities, lol. Thanks guys, I told him Id get it going for sure with your help!

if you can spin the engine by only spinning the clutch bell, then he shoes are somehow engaged to the bell. if they are aluminum, larsen is right and they have probably had some sort of galvanic reaction and sort of welded to the bell. or if they are the regular shoes, the dust from the clutches being worn down may of caused a shoe or two to adhere to the bell.

I'm not sure what else would cause the truck to go forward without the clutches engaged though. granted I'm kind of new into this hobby, but its not a whole lot different that other things ive worked on.

That problem should be obvious with the engine out. Someone could have replaced clutch shoes, or clutchbell and not payed attention to shimming.

Yeah I would say when he pulls the clutch bell off or tries to atleast the prblem will be obvious. Otherwise there is a big air leak and the engine is going crazy when he starts it but he didn't mention it.

The anticipation is killing me. Let us know if the engine started when you can. This is like waiting for the next episode of a tv show lol.

I put a post up in the wrong thread, how? I don't have a clue. I'm waiting on a mod to move it for me. I don't even think this thread is in the right place. I guess it could be. Regardless, could a mod help me out, and put this thread in the right forum, and then we can get back to my problem. Sorry fellas

ok

Thanks for all the help so far guys! Here are a couple pics, I hope you can see them good. If not, tell me what pics you need to see and I will take them. I have the motor off, I re-did the clutch shoes, I think I did them right. This time I didnt tighen the clutch bell screw as tight as last time, and it moves freely now. am I in the right direction??? The screw is tight, but I didnt tighten it to where the screw is about to break. Is that clutch bell supposed to move around freely? Do you want me to take the clutch bell off again and show you piece by piece whats in there? You tell me what you want pics of, and Ill take them!

Ok here is what I Have. Clutches are in place, so I took pics of whats inside that clutch bell. The pics are labled in order. If I turn the clutch bell with everything in place and just my fingers, should it turn freely, or only turn with the fly wheel?

I'm trying over and over, but I cannot thghten the bolt as tight as I can and still have the clutch bell spin freely. I can tighten it down to where the clutch bell spins freely and doesnt move in and out

I see that I am suposed to use threadlock on the screw........so should I apply the threadlock and tighten id down just to where the clutch bell is still freely moving??

i had the same problem and what i did was tighten it down till bell spins freely and doesnt slide in and out and put lots of loctite on the screw has worked fine for 5 tanks. but after that i read somewhere about the shim kit and or removing the washer hope this helps keep us posted.

gonna try your suggestions.......but let me ask this....should the clutches themselves move, spin with out spinning the flywheel? They arent moving. I can pull them out a little but they pop back in since they have a spring

thats what i would try for now what have you got to loose. i would keep an eye on it to make sure the screw doesnt back out :Xfingers: :Xfingers:
