I'm addicted to polishing, i have a good buffer, the kind that looks like a desktop grinder, i polish everything on my rc's and atvs
mothers works awesome with a dremel, you can also get a cheap drill press and put a small buffing wheel on it and that works great with mothers and is faster

The buku doesn't come in black , That was only 3 min of polishing .. BANKRUPTER says his is like a mirror .. Also said he would post some pic on how he did his ..

I love it Jester. It looks very nice. They should polish them from the factory granted the stock finnish is easier to take care of.

Good job jester! I kinda like the rough finish they come with though.

Nice looking pipe SJ!!! That's a heckuva good job man! At work, we have the special polishing wheels just for our "ultra high speed air powered big boy dremels" lol When we make certain parts, passes and wear surfaces sometimes have to be polished. I can polish high nickel/chrome cast iron (which is extremely hard/brittle) in no time at all. I'll have to try that on my old AE pipe. 🙂

Jester, You need to do some prep work. The better the prep, the better the polish will look. First hit it with some 600grit wet/dry sand paper. Do it wet. Follow with some 1000 grit. Then polish with a polishing tip from your dremmel or a polishing disc for a 4" grinder. Use some aluminum rouge from the hardware store or the rouge that came with your dremmel. Melt the rouge into the wheel by buffing the rouge with the tip. You will see the tip take the rouge . Buff the pipe. Then top it all off with mothers. It will look like a mirror when your done.

Thanks for the tips Grumpy ...

It wont do any damage even tho I did some work on it ?

where i buy my polishes from has different colors for different grits, i use the black for cleaning the metal and then the green for final polishing, you can shave in whatever i polish, lol ill post some pics later when i have time

Nope, you cant hurt it. The better you sand it the nicer the polish job will look. You want to sand until you cant see any lines. Its just a flat matt solid finish. Start wet sanding with 600 and move to 1000. Otherwise youll be sanding all day. Then buff it up. The rouge works much better than mothers (faster). The mothers or blue magic is the final touch. Home Depot sell all the polishing stuff. Disco is the name of the products. They keep them by the tools. Drill bits and stuff. I use the 4" wheel with the most seams in it. The rouge will look like a big crayon and be labeled Alu. or stainless. Either will do. Then I detail with my dremmel. Your dremmel probably came with either red or green rouge and some buffing tips. You can do the whole thing with that, it will just take a little longer. Those tips don't last very long.

Piper I did what my man here said :resp:

GRUMPY......sounds like you have done some real automotive wheel polishing! Jester the pipe looks good man!

Yep, I used to polish alu. rims on 1:1 cars. Same proceess baisicly, but you have to strip the factory clear coat off with some aircaft stripper available at auto zone. The sanding is tougher too. 1:1 wheels have machined lines in them where they were cut. You have to sand them out.

I used to polish everything. At one time my savy had polished tvps, shock towers, bulks, and pipe. Be aware that polished alu requires maintance. A Mothers rub down is required from time to time so areas that are hard to get at may not be good for polishing. Thats why theres not much polished on my stuff now.

On a different note, I'm powdercoating some B5 exhaust parts for a freind on another forum. This new powder is supposed to heat resistant and good for exhaust. I should be getting it this week. If its successful I'll probably be coating a lot of bukus. My Buku (still in the box) looks to be powder coated silver. I'm hopeing to start testing Wed. I'll keep you guys posted on the powder coating.

I might be polishing my pipe this weekend.

The one for the Savage you perverts!

You brought that one on yourself.

SJ, VERY NICE man! That's excellent! Looks really good my man! Two thumbs up, the whole shibang, you get the deal.

Very good job in my opinion. Polishing can be really fun if done correctly. 🙂 I used to polish everything too. I use to use Neverdull to shine polished parts up, specially works good on aluminum!

heres a pipe i polished, i still have to do some final polishing with mothers to get the rest of the lines out
i also included a couple pics of some shocks towers i polished
i used black and green rouge on both
