I took it apart and played with it and it seemed to be working again so I put it back together and as soon as I tryed it it lasted like 2 seconds and quit turning the piston again. I am going to change it to a pull start, I think. Any suggestions? bad word

the roto start is pretty tuff on owb that is why people like the pull better but you should replace your owb too. you can clean it with brake cleaner and it will work for a little while and then it will go out again.

yes a pull start is alot easier on the owb... but you can clean it with rubbing alcolhol and clean the shaft to.. also try to use a fuel that don't has alot of oil content in it ,, the more oil the more it will get into the owb and make it slip... also check the owb for a crack in the bearing to if its cracked replace it...

aslo its alot easier to start the engine if you heat it up a lil first with a blow dryer the owb will grip better when its hot and the piston slips easier when its hot aswell..

when i used roto start i drilled a small hole in the side of the roto start case so i could fit a straw in it so i could spray it out with carb cleaner with out haveing to remove the motor to clean the owb it helps in the feild.... good luck hope some this info helps you out..

Okay I just took it apart and the OWB seems to work when I put it further down the shaft but where it normally runs it has worn the shaft so the there is too much clearance between the OWB and the shaft. I'm thinking the OWB is still good and I just need the starter shaft but I cannot find the part on HPI's website, anybody know the part number for just that shaft? I will try to call HPI tomorrow.

Found the HPI number if anyone else sees this thread with the same problem I have. It's 15234 for the Starting Shaft ($7.00). And 15294 for the Pull Start Shaft Holder which is the piece that contains the one-way bearing ($23.00). These are the HPI part numbers and the prices listed on their site so prices may vary I suppose depending on where you get them from.

its great that u took the time to post the part numbers so its easy for someone else having the same problem to find them.. repped ya!!

I actually could not find them online but they were in the book of course, I just had get off my butt and go get it LOL. I think they are the same pieces from the k4.6 that they use in the k5.9, that may be why there is some confusion on HPI's site and I couldn't find the shaft when looking under the XL section.

I just got off the phone with HPI and they are sending me both parts at no charge under the warranty. I got good customer service from the guy I talked to, I was on the phone like 5 minutes or less and he didn't even ask me a ton of questions to prove when I bought the truck, like I expected. That may be an indication that they know they have a problem with that part cause he also seemed to know the part number right off the bat. I'm thinking he gets a lot of those same calls LOL.

HPI, is great to replace the parts. I've had a receiver go bad...three days later one came in the mail. Outstanding service!
