hello,
I have had a firestorm previously but I'm looking to get the latest 2013 savage x 4.6.
is there anything you would recommend doing to the truck before starting the run in procedure / driving the truck after run in?

also does anybody know if the mid tank lean issue is still a problem with the latest 2013 model?
TIA

Welcome to the site alexwright!

The half tank lean issue has always and is currently an issue. Though some see it worse than others, some don't even notice an issue. The only mod that is in my book a "must" for that savage would be a receiver hump pack battery (6V, 1600mAh or greater). Otherwise I'd say just drive it like you stole it until you break something. Then the fun begins.....and the mod addiction sets in.

haha thanks for your swift reply.
I was planning on buying the hump pack at the same time as the truck 🙂
so you wouldn't recommend locktighting certain bolts etc.?
I have read about servo saver on steering servo being loose..

funny that because I have contacted HPI directly and they told me the half tank lean issue hasn't been around for years!!

Yes, sorry. I just gave you mods. there are always certain things that should be done with a new RC. Check all screws, blue loctite those that go into metal. The servo saver adjust, as well as the spur gear are subjective. Though I think many will tell you to lock those both down (tighten all the way). Check the shocks for leaks as well as proper oil levels. Adjust your remote, the end points for the throttle/ brake and steering as well as the offset. If you want to dig in deep, it's never a bad idea to disassemble the engine and check for defects, after that seal it up to prevent air leaks (link to a write up for that below).

I could probably go on and on.....but you get the point.

This.....sadly is very laughable.

Thanks for your time replying.
I plan to lock tight said bolts and make adjustments but I don't think I have the confidence stripping the engine to seal it! Knowing my luck I would mess something up and spending close to £400 I can't risk it. I didn't have a problem with my old firestorm even after buying it as a kid starting it up for the first time and full throttling it up the road!

Can't see how companies can sell a car that is ready to run but won't last long if said items aren't attended too!

Regarding the engine I will break it in properly then hope for the best
The firestorm taught me the basics on tuning etc so I should be ok!

Thanks again

Sounds like you'll be fine. Feel free to post up with any issues that come up. Plenty of helpful, knowledgeable people around here.

Welcome to the forum! As X said, post up any more questions you may have.

Almost anything built from a factory will need to be gone over. Not just rc's or hpi rc's. Anything.

In the rc world, losi 5t's and the like can easily have a bolt loose.

In other hobbies its the same way. Take guitars, for instance. Ive seen 2000$ gibsons have loose tuners out of the box.

Even cars. Unless it's very high quality( like Ferrari or Porsche).
