Well the weather is gonna be nice for a few days so i got the savage out and started playin around with it. I wanted to try holding it by the wheelie bar and punch the throttle and see if tires would break loose and smoke them. Well it did with no effort, I was hoping to see smoke and a black mark but that didn't happen. But i noticed that the clutches would start to slip when it shifted into second. Then i tried holding down on the truck from a dead stop and punched the throttle and clutches would just slip.......Now the weird part is that if you accelerate slowly they will engage and grab but soon as it hits second they break loose again?cornfused It seems like a sudden acceleration/high rev they don't want to grab. I've always heard a slight slipping when i was making wide open passes, just thought it was the slipper.
I wonder if this is why i went through 2 sets of carbon shoes, a set of integy aluminum shoes, & I have about half the life left on the max life's. Currently i'm running a 17/47 gearing with max life shoes & mugen .09 springs, proline road rage 40 series tires.

Anyone have suggestions on what the problem could be, or is there a better CB or aluminum shoes.
hammer time

the 40 series could of had something to do with the carbon shoes.

as for the bell, a vented clutch bell is definatly the way to go. make sure you take VERY fine sand paper and rough up the inside of the bell to make sure you get maximum grip when first using the new clutches.

sorry about that i forgot to mention that it is a vented clutch bell (hpi), and i did sand the inside of the CB

I don't see why the 40 series road rage tires would effect it, they are like slicks.

I had big joe's on my t-maxx with stock gearing and stock carbon shoes, and i ran that truck alot and only replaced them 2 times that i had the truck? Like 8-9 gallons between the 3 motors, 2.5, 2.5R, & 3.3, but I did replace the diff cups alot & forward gears almost every week.

Tires are not the issue. But I cant think of what is. I use 1.0 springs but that's not it. Open up that tranny and take a look at the gears also look for bad bearings and the like. 47/17 is fine too. I run 47/19 w/out issues. Try to find what is straining the truck. Hows you spur/ cb mesh? too tight? IDK just tossing out ideas. With out it here I'm clueless... Good luck

Can't be the trans, I just had it apart and cleaned everything and the truck rolls perfectly fine. No binding of any sort. The clutches seem to slip on sudden acceleration. If you ease on the throttle they will bite (about 1/4 throttle) while holding the truck then you punch it to wide open it justs slips.

Here is a example......say if you're racing and you come to a corner/turn, you tap the brakes and then you punch it to wide open.....mine will just start slipping.cornfused

Got ya... other than the light springs I see nothing in your set up that has ever gave me issues. IDK my friend I was just thinking out loud on that one... Wish ya luck.

I know you said you sanded the inside of the CB, but have you done it since you tried your burnout? You could have glazed the inside of the CB so it may need to be done again.

I'm gonna give it another go today sometime. I installed the original flywheel (new), & a 18T CB that i had that has about 9 tanks of fuel on it, sanded it and filed off burs on shoes. I was using a integy flywheel and I noticed slight grooves on the pins? Must be from the springs?

Does any one have experience or links for reviews with the (werks) racing clutches, & if they are any good for light bashing. I'm not no racer anymore, but i'm gonna be running it at a indoor local track for the winter on practice days.bad driver

Thanks for the tips:resp:
