No Brake on Savage X 4.6

In the above photo of my Savage, you can see that the brake rod is way forward. Currently I have no brakes. I have to pull the lever completely foward for the brakes to engage. Looking at other pics on the site I have noticed that everyone else's brake lever is standing straight up. I'm doing the OFNA throttle mod tomorrow, but really want the brake system working properly before I begin the mod.

ed start by getting this set up http://www.hpiracing.com/products/en/87025/ if you look on ebay you can usually find them with the rod and brass puck that actuate the brakes. all from a xl

That is the setup that I currently have. I tried tightening the screws, but the bottom one is stripped. The top one is fine. I removed the rear section and engine made the adjustments, but my roto-start battery is dead so I wont be able to gauge the effectiveness of my work until tomorrow.

if the bottom screw is stripped put a small dab of ca glue or super glue on the screw and put it back in.also before you do that pull the brakes off and remove the brass puck and pull the cam rod to check it for wear.

I stopped by my LHS this morning and was told that the only way to really take care of the stripped lower screw is replace the transmission case. Since I'm planning on a three speed tranny, I'll just wait (the adjustments I made did work). Hopefully, next week, I'll be ordering the new tranny!!
