Hello,
What is your idle gap set to for this specific engine? That's really what I am looking for, continue reading for a small back story and explanation.
I've read conflicting information on the idle gap for the S-25. I've read that the manual was wrong and has been corrected, but not what it was corrected to. I've read to ignore the factory spec and set the idle gap to 1 mm as a starting point. I've read from the manual that the idle gap should be approximately 2 mm and not allowed to close to less than that.
After years of trying to tune my Savage with a gap of 2 mm with no luck, I found that the smaller the idle gap, the better it runs. But this also affects the LSN settings and so on. I am dialing it in, finally after it sitting on the shelf for so long, but am curious as to what a solid base line is to start from, especially for those having a hard time tuning?
There's a lot of information out there about nitro engine tuning but how specific do we need to be with our brand of engine? The factory settings for the S-25 seem to have led me down a frustrating path in the past. There's a list of the popular manufacturers here and their factory settings, but for the S-25, I gotta say and believe it's wrong for the idle gap. There are fine adjustments to be made, sure, but half of what the MFR recommends? Seems a bit too much.
It's fun getting back into nitro, and I am now teaching my 15 year old son how to take care of his buggy, and hopefully tune it properly.

Would say rough rule of thumb is 1mm & go from there, if idle is to high close it down & like wise if struggling to keep idling open it up slightly!👍🏻

Start at 1mm, get your HSN right, then bring it in after a Wot run, should idle down immediately. If the idle changes after a few seconds of idling (double idle) lean the LSN and use the idle gap to bring RPM down.

Continue doing this until there is no double idle, you should be able to go WOT, let off with no brake and have the engine drop to a steady idle immediately. It should also idle indefinitely and immediately pick up and go when you stab the throttle once tuned correctly.

So many people compensate for a Far too rich LSN setting with idle gap, and further compensate by being too lean on HSN. I set my idle gap at .5mm and only might tweak it here and there + or - .1mm. I set idle with the LSN.
