Ok guys heres the scoop. I recently inharited a Savage from my uncle. I believe it is a savage 21 or 25. Hes had the truck for at least 6+ years. To be honest it looks as if it was rode a lil hard and put away wet. The engine still runs but it has a couple issues. First of all, 3 out of the 8 shocks were damaged/missing parts. Second of all, the brakes don't work. It looks like one of the screws that holds the pads on backed out and the discs are sliding back/forth on drive shaft. Third of all, the air filter basically disintegrated because its so old. 4th of all the truck wont idle without the truck moving.

I would really like to bring this truck back to life. Ive already ordered replacement parts including big bore shock set, brake kit, and air filter. This is my first rc. I want to go through the entire truck and do a full service and make sure its entirely safe and sound before use. I don't have any expierience working on rc cars but i am very mechanically inclined and would love to learn. Any advice on servicing this truck would be greatly appriciated.

Get yourself a full bearing kit. Just replace all the bearings on the truck.
Engine needs cleaning too. Check for rust and replace it if necessary.
Not idling if not rolling could be the clutch. Bearings are stuck or the shoes are. Check if it has aluminum shoes, which I guess it doesn't. Get yourself a set of aluminum shoes.. Work a lot better.

Fuel lines and filter should be replaced too.

Get a manual from the hpi site. Discontinued kits and dl it. 21 25 and ss ate the same so you can get one of the manuals.

Tear the whole truck apart and start rebuilding using the manual..
Check the diffs and refresh the oil in them. Probably there is just some grease in them..

I agree with caretaker, it's an awesome and amazing hobby . Get a manual and figure that beast out ! Then you'll gain intelligence and have no worries when repairs are needed!

In other words... You have tons of work to do before you will drive this baby.
