The AMD system I think will be pretty good and on some levels stay with the intel build. What ya think?

i have always been partial to AMD. I'm running the phenom, but i don't really use it to its potential. supposedly the AMD runs better with the ATI graphics cards. i don't know the validity to that

intel is supposed to be the latest and greatesst thing. i have a friend that switched from a dual core amd to a comparable core intel, and he loves it.

Mega, You plan on gaming with this computer as well? Looks like a very nice setup either way!!

gaming is what it will be done with it. skull trail with dual I7 cpu's is top intel stuff. The amd set up will cost half as much if not less.

I was a long time AMD user. I built 4 systems all with AMD chips, but my current system is Intel Q9550. Right now Intel has the better processor for gaming but you also need to pick a good video card. I think ATI is slightly ahead of Nvidia right now but changes almost daily.

The GTX295 dominates the 4870x2 ATI cards. 1 295 posts almost the same scores as 2 4870x2 cards. Either way I'll run two 295 cards in quad SLI.

i would go with AMD - according to test rigs AMD seems a bit faster when loads th heavy windows vista

keep in mind vista is weaker in games then XP

for the graphpic card go with GX2 nvidia its 1024 giga which is absulote for the graphics or get 2 8800GTX nvidia

solid stat hardisk SSD works like the flash usb drive which means its faster and more safe since there is no movable parts

vista ultimate is too high, get vista home 64bit which will save u some $

for the mouse i prefere logitech, it lives longer and more durable, and soft on ur wrest

if cant customise it then get the AMD and welcome to the heaven of pc gaming :D :D

gtx8800 and gx2 are 1 generations old. They have less ram and less stream processors than the 295. They are 300.00 cheaper which is nice but one 295 can push more fps than 2 9800gx2 cards. I love AMD but skull trail is king and that is one reason why I looked at it. with 2 I7 cpu's and hyper threading enabled vista 64 sees 16 cores instead of 8 with skull trail. But the cost is why I am looking hard at the AMD set up.
I love my FX57 but it is time to pass it to my wife. I'll miss it. It was a good gaming rig plus had some great bling.

This is where my half of the tax money is going.

my water cooled baby is going to get a refit and cleaning. then it will go to the wife.

show us the pic once u get it, u made me curiouse to get such a system, my pc is running old now, 2 years old, lol

Mine is 2+ years old also. running an FX57 and DFI Lanparty board.

If you are using this for games, AMD is fine. Otherwise stick with Intel. AMD is behind the curve and now it's doubtful that they can keep up with Intel's Core 2 platform and future core processors (Core i7). And as a company they are broke and have always played catch-up or copy to Intel. I do not see AMD around in 5 years.

Just my opinion.

Well the brakes just got slammed on. AM3 will be out in about 3 weeks for there first line CPUs and 2Q will be there FX series CPUs. So looks like I'm waiting....

Whip AMD was bought by the UAE. When the bought them they put 2.5 billion into the company just for CPU development. That is 5X more than Intel's budget for development. Also remember that AMD was Intel and Intel let the employees buy them out do to intel's thought that PC games were stupid. AMD has a firm place in the market and will never leave. Until 1.5 years ago Intel was in AMDs position. AMD and Intel is a ****ing contest just like AMD/ATI and Nvidea. It will Always go back and forth. Helps out the consumer. The new 940 chips are faster than the QX chips and only slightly slower than the I7. The new FX DDR3 AMD chips is supposed to surpass or be equal to the I7 for only 300.00.

Intel has been screaming foul to the Feds on the buy out because of shared licensing on designs. But the money has been put into the company so that to me says it is go time.

It says that in 2005, AMD chips were found in roadside bombs used in Iraq. The chips were initally bought by a UAE company, sent to Iran, then ended up as a part of Iranian "foreign aid."

While the article doesn't say what kind of AMD chip was used, it does say that the chip was not subject to export restrictions since it "was not considered especially powerful." Given that, I think you can preclude Athlons or Hammers. Maybe it was a Geode, more likely wasn't even a CPU.

In other words, these were probably humble, generic chips, so there's no reason to think that AMD knew or should have known that these chips were being used as homicide helpers.

You can't expect a company to be able to control what their customers end up sending their equipment. Just off the top of my head, back in the eighties, more than a few IBM PC and ATs with Intel Inside ended up inside the Soviet Union, thanks to some cooperative distributors.

Not saying the UAE isn't crooked but don't say AMD USA would do anything like that on purpose.
