I can't figure out why my savage x with the F4.6 stalls when the throttle is quickly closed from 1/2 to full throttle position. My LSN is set so that I get good acceleration and power off the line. The truck will idle for ~30 sec before loading up and isn't engaging the clutch. I don't pay much attention to temp since break-in, but generally don't see anything higher than 250 F and it will cool when idling. The HSN is set so that I get a good smoke trail. Both needles are set slightly rich. The truck is about 1 month old and I have run about 3/4 of a gallon of 20% through it. Could this be an air leak?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm new to nitro.

If you don't want to mess with your needles use the Throttle Trim on the remote and turn it clock wise a little but start up the truck (warm it up) then let off the throttle and see what happens...

If you don't want to mess around with the throttle trim then as Hypnotiq said look at your idle gap, take off the air filter and look into the chamber...

You don't want to use the trim on the radio to adjust the idle as it will cause issues when you use the breaks.

I had some trouble with this early on with my k5.9. Figured out that i had my LSN too lean. For some reason richening the LSN got rid of the stalling when you let off. Make sure your idle gap is set correctly first, then you might try richening the LSN some. I believe that mine was mainly caused by tuning the motor before it was broken in 'enough' because now I can tune it how ever I want and I only get the typical symptoms of it being either too lean or too rich. No longer get the stalling problem. Mine even did it when the idle was set too high so I know it wasn't that in my case.

hey guys thanks for the response.
-the idle gap is set to 1mm by the idle set screw.
-when i start it up, i increase the lower end point on my transmitter and keep it at a high idle until warmed up.
-richening the LSN will make it stop stalling, but i need to increase the idle to the point that the clutch starts engaging.

I don't have any more ideas but my motor took like 2 gallons before I felt it was truly broken in and I got rid of the tuning issues. But I have the k5.9 and most guys hate it. I think many of them give up on it before it is broken in all the way because I had serious tuning issues but now I feel the motor is fine, and it has lots of power IMO. I haven't run a Picco or LRP or anything but this engine lights up all four tires, even on warm pavement and I'm running the Goliaths now which are not only tall but pretty heavy too. Can't wait till I can afford a Picco LOL.

be easy on it for a little bit longer and it wont disapoint you she needs to loosen up and then it will rip

Kinda what i'm thinkin' man. Richen the LSN up a bit, for a little while longer, even if the idle needs to be a little high to keep her goin'. Then when it loosens up you may not have the problem anymore.

thanks guys, i'll try fattening up the LSN and see how it goes. thanks for the quick responses.
