I'd just like to get some opinions on different engine options. My lhs stocks Axial, Picco, O.S. and can get just about anything. Id like to hear from as many as possible the good and bad experiences they have had with the different mills they have run.
Upon disassembly of my sons mill prepping for pump install I found that the con-rod to crank play was excessive. The piston and sleeve are still good though. I could replace the crank and con-rod but why?
I've heard the axial is a great bang for the buck mill and picco seems pretty popular here but the buyer beware thread has me wondering if its worth it. As well there are many different engines I know nothing about.
Also should I stick with the .28 or go bigger. The xdyno thread shows some of the .28's having more torque and horsepower than the .32's.
I can get an O.S. .28 for $225 and an axial .28RR or .32 for $169 an axial .28 spec1s for &129

Lrp z.28 spec 3?
Picco P3...

What sort of driving do you do?

From what I've heard the p3 is a belter top end, but the lrp will stick with it low/mid range. The p3 that purenitro did the drag mod to looked to scream though... ;D

Mostly just playin hard. Construction sites, hill climbs, technical stuff, sand dunes, mountains, bmx tracks, rc tracks, depends on where we are. I like to do it all. Though I don't race, at least not officially.

I wouldn't rush the LRP .30 some engines have issues when they are first on the market, it's best to let it come out and review what others are saying. The LRP .28 is a nice engine and has a good name for being easy to tune and running fast. The Picco .28 is a better engine in terms of quality and for $30 more then the LRP, it would be my first choice. Hope that helps.

How do you guys feel about the axials? they are a little less money. If ya like em which one of them would you choose? Or if they are junk i'd like to know.

You are rolling the dice on buying any axial engine. They are notorious for front bearing failure, severe needle walk and poor customer service. I would buy and HPI K or F engine before buying another new axial. I have owned two of them and still have a .28 but I got it for 40$ as a spare. I love os engines. They are extremely reliable and plentiful parts. Both of mine are easy tuners and make good power. The lrp is strong but parts are getting scarce for them. Never owned a picco but you wont be dissapointed with it for sure.

Lots of good advice here. I have two axials and they are a good budget mill. they do have some small issues, like the mid range needle like to walk and prone to get air leaks. Both these issues are fixed by sealing up the engine. After sealing, I have not had many issues with the motor. Good luck on your engine choice

From what I've pulled up on the web Ive found that the O.S. has what they call an ABL liner. Not sure what that is but its not industry standard. a 2 needle carb. and a tornado head. Manufacturer claimed 3.0 HP at 28,000. Displacement is .30. Rotostart capable.

The Picco has an ABC lliner and a high silicon machined billet piston, 2 needle carb with interchangeable venturi's a claimed 2.85 HP and 33,000 RPM displacement is .28. Does not specify whether rotostart capable.

The newcomer LRP ZR.30X has an ABC liner 2 needle the carb. but does claim an impressive 4.21 HP and a max RPM of 38,300 and 3 interchangeable venturis. Also recommended nitro content is 25%-36% (kinda explains the higher numbers) The ZR.30 Spec 2 lists powerstart capability. The ZR.30X Comp Does not specify.

I've already read the post on x-dyno figures so I realize these numbers don't mean squat. But I've gotta admit the LRP is tempting. Its .28 predecessor did have a good rep and I am a sucker for German engineering.

Does anyone have any ideas on pricepoints for these engines?

I put lrp 2.8 in my 4.6 it has a lot power and is by my hobby guy a picco 2.7 I personal don't know but its alot of fun . Also put O.S 30 in my 5.9 haven't run it so Icant compare the two

yes it will all work but with better power you might want a metal spur gear and play with bell and spur gear I'm running 47-15 and it wheelys like crazy
