ok dumb question..i was taking off my clutch bell.then clutches,,then went for the flywheel...i cant get the nut off thats in front of the flywheel..the flywheel just spins on the shaft so i cant hold it..i cant figure out how to hold the motor so i can break that nut loose..i thought of putting something in the cylinder to hold the piston but i know that will end in trouble...so I'm looking for some methods you guys use to take the flywheel off...thanks in advance

well, i didnt get u exactley, but it seems u want to remove the clutch bell if am not mistaken since u mentioned motor rotation, if the spark plug is in its place and still roatating, then try to heat the shaft little bit to take the screw off, if its still rotating open the spark plug, use a wooden stick to hold the cylnder in its place, u need someone else to hold the engine and the stick for u while u take off the screw, let me know what happen then 🙂

cheers mate

sorry if i worded it wrong...I'm trying to take the whole front assembly off the motor to sell it..i got everything off and I'm stuck with the little nut in front of the flywheel..i cant get it off..i have a flywheel puller for when i get the nut off.but I'm stuck here..i tried holding the flywheel and then loosening the nut but the flywheel started to spin,so i cant lock the crankshaft to break the nut loose..there lies my problem..if the nut doesnt come off i cant get my flywheel off...

Yeah it can be a pain.. You need to probably put flywheel in a vise or some visegrips. then use a 10 mm deep socket to remove the nut

Ive seen these problems before. If I remember correctly I put a hefty Zip tie in the exhaust port and it was enough to loosen the nut. I think I also had a rolo start back plate on it and stuck a flat head screw driver in the rear to help hold it. Kind of a 2 man job but will work. Good luck bud.

you can take a piece of flat alu and drill 3 holes where the pin is and a larger hole where the pilot nut is too, that way you don't have the risk of damaging any engine parts.

if you want to spring the bucks, most lhs's carry a flywheel tool.

You guys are missing the point. The Flywheel is spinning when he holds it. Even if he has a flywheel tool it will not keep it from spinning.

i tried holding the flywheel and then loosening the nut but the flywheel started to spin,so i cant lock the crankshaft to break the nut loose..there lies my problem..if the nut doesnt come off i cant get my flywheel off...

Try what I stated above. You can also try to wedge the flywheel to the side in a crooked motion trying to get it to hold to the Crank enough to get the nut loosened or can jam a flat screw driver between flywheel and block. But what I first stated is the best bet.

good tips larsen..i got it off with the big ziptie in the exhaust port..any time i need help i always know i can get it here:jamout: thanks guys

i used an adjustable oil filter wrench the small one for a real car its rubber band like and can go small enough to go around the flywheel to hold it

i wrap the flywheel with a rag and use chanel locks to hold the flywheel. then with the 4 way tire wrench i have it breaks loose with no problem.

You just have to grab the flywheel with some channel locks and bust the clutch nut loose. I don't recommend sticking anything inside the engine short of a zip tie only to remove a sleeve. With the channel locks there is no torque going through all the internal parts, if the nut is very tight you run the risk of damaging the engine. For next time lol.
