This is a question for the pipe experts, I have these 2 pipes:

Dynamite 086 Platinum:

OFNA 053:

Notice the difference in the shape of the headers, my question is, what are the pros/cons of swapping the headers on the pipes, Say take the 053 header with a more of a flat bend to it and using it on the 083?

I would assume the Rounded header would be best, I'm not sure how much gain it would be but would think it would be a tad. I can't imagine it would hurt anything.

Thanks for the reply Jason, for some reason the 086 header doesnt like to seat nicely on the exhaust port of the LRP, but the 053 header does, was thinking of switching them but was wondering what the pros/cons would be

I believe the reason it doesn't like the LRP or most engines if i'm correct is because that header is made to sit on the other side of the engine. Notice the flat spot on the header to clear the Pull start or rolo start back plate. If i remember I ground it flat on the other side to fit the mill's better on both of mine.

Switching them will be no big deal. Like I stated the rounded one would most likely flow better that would be about it for cons. For Pros if your on a standard length chassis and running your shock on the front side of the rear arm the flat one would be further away from your shocks.

This is just my 2cents worth. I'm by far no expert on pipes n headers. But I think. The longer the header the more top end you gain. The shorter it is the more bottom end you gain. I think. Could be totally wrong. But don't think it would hurt any think switching up pipes n header combos. I had to do that with my lrp and ths pipe *** to put a shorter header on it to clear the cage on my ironmaiden truck.

Thanks for the input, and i would like robins input as well, Jason at first glance i thought that the flat part was preventing it front sealing all the way, but after messing with it for a while last night it didnt seem them case, in my opinion it has something to do with the gasket, when its off it sits fine, with it on it doesnt push on far enough to completely seal, now it really hasn't been a big issue, but i did notice while racing at the track yesterday, someone hit me in the side and bent the pipe mount down, tweaking the whole pipe and i could tell it was leading by how loud it was, thats why i started to adress the situation

I'm pretty sure you are correct Max, shorter (restricted) headers create more low end, which is what the 053 is considered, and everyone knows that the 086 is a high end pipe, at first glance the only difference is the headers of the 2 pipes, now i cant inspect the inside of the pipes obviously but I'm guessing that they are somewhat similar.
Jason, yesterday at the track i was running the std length flm plates and the 086 pipe on the LRP, I'm unable to run 2 shocks on the back like u said, but not an issue since i run big bores anyways.

The straighter the better and too big is just as bad as too small. A longer header/pipe combo will increase bottom end just like a shorter set up will help the top end. The system has to be sealed in order for everything to work properly as well, air leaks tend to lean out the engine.

ok so we were wrong, a shorter header will create top end? and vise versa? whats your opinion on using the 053 header on the 086 pipe?
