:stressed: I have a problem with my axial 28 spec1. I bogs when i give it over half throttle and yet the needles have been leaned out but not a lot. and motor was warm not hot. it sounds like a air leak but I'm not sure. I ended up kicking my savage across my garage. i didn't break any thing doing so just hurt my foot. Please help all ideas or opinions needed to help me fix this issue. :stressed:

i try that but i'm thinking if i lean it out anymore it going to run extremely hot

Like I said I think I would first seal the engine.

From my past experiences the Axial Spec 1S tends to run a little hotter. Mine ran great at around 280* sometimes hotter.

when you are tunning go mostly based on smoke trail, sound, and how it runs. The temps are just something to watch. Most seam to watch them a little to close.

Heat is a byproduct of tuning. if your tuning to run cool your tuning wrong.

Edit: Larson beat me

The axial engines are well known for front bearing blowbye. If you cant get it to stay cool at factory settings or slight leaning there is an air leak.

Figures I got a sh**ty motor. Any fix for the blowby beside a better motor. I might have to save up some money. This what I get for getting back into the rc world again. Murphys law really gets annoying. Any recommendations for a hobbist on a budget. No more then $200.00 if possible. No I'm not cheap just bills come first and my job doesn't pay that great.

SMF STORE also has the surefire 32r on sale for like $170.00 i've been hearing alot of good things about that engine as well

For what I heard the Surefire is alot like the Axial 32 wich is what I run. I love my Axial. If you had enough of the Axial's go LRP I also have a LRP there worth every coin and there under 200$ :beer:cheer!

Blazer the .32R is a new design, doubt they will make the standard .32 for long if they even still are.

Another great mill is the Picco P3 which is about the best mill for under or around $200.

What do you guys think of these motors? Ofna .28 Picco w/Pull Start or Ofna .28T Factory Team w/Turbo Plug or Ofna Force .32 or Ofna .28 Hyper Mach w/Pull Start. there all with in my budget i just curious what you guys think and if there even worth buying.

ddogg, I've got 1 1/2 gal. through my axial 28 spec1 also and the front bearings started leaking. If your trying to save some money, just swap out the bearings for better ones. I just swapped mine out for some boca bearings. I have yet to run it cuz I'm waiting for a new clutch to be delivered. The problem with the bearings is that on the inner front bearing (inside the motor), the ball cage wore out and created slop inbetween the bearing and crankshaft. That's what caused it to leak out the front. I spent $65 for the ceramic MX line of bocas, including shipping. It's a cheaper route for you to consider also. And from what I've heard, bocas are the best you can get.

Also, it hasn't been asked or mentioned before, what % fuel are you runnin and with what type of plug(hot, med, cold)? I know that sometimes comes into play with tuning issues. That's the problem we has with my buddy's motor, the LHS told/gave him the wrong plug to use with the fuel he was using. Also something to look into.

Wow I'm forgetting a lot of stuff. And the size of bearings when i going looking for them.

Holy crap i looked up the factory bearings for my motor and it $25.19 for Axial Rear Bearing 14x25x6 .28/.32 and its $7.99 for Axial Front Bearing 7x19x6 .28/.32 at tower hobbies. $25.19 for a crappy factory bearings ouch.

20%-25% a factory glow plug which i believe is a medium

The motors don't come with a plug when bought new. If your runnin 20% nitro then you need to use a med. plug depending on the ouside temps. Not sure about what plug to use with 25% cuz I've only used 20% and 30%. If your using 30% nitro then you'll need a cold plug depending on the outside temps. What is the outside temp where your located?

oh yeah i forgot to ask u xtrem where u bought your bearings from?

I bought them directly from Boca Bearings. Here's a link to the set that I got.

And here's the link to the page of all the replacement bearings that Boca makes for Axial motors. You can get either the ones for the 28rr or the 32 spec1s, they are all the same. I suggest going with a ceramic ball type bearing. From what one of the pro-modders here on the forum told me, ceramic ball bearings are the best way to go if you have to replace the motor bearings.

Wow I'm forgetting a lot of stuff. And the size of bearings when i going looking for them.

The size of the bearings is the same for all 3 of the big block Axial motors. The 28 spec1s, 28rr, and the 32 spec1s all have the same size bearings.

Yeah that's a bit expensive. Hence the reason why I went with the Bocas. Spending a little bit more money for better bearings is worth it.

The Sure Fire .32 and .32R is No longer in production. Parts are getting hard to find for it also. Racers Edge is doing an entirely new motor to be released in a year or so.

i had heard rumours about that but didnt know if it was true or not so i guess it was so thats good to know!! as i really wouldnt want to grab a engine that i cant get parts for!!

No the glow plug came with the motor in the truck because i got it off of craigslist in a trade. he barely ran it. yeah i looked up boca bearing and wasn't really surprise to find how expensive they are but u said there worth it. so i going to try to save up some money and buy those bearing. and a fuel filter.

or he ran the crap out of this motor but i doubt it by the way it feel pulling the pull starter.

Yeah, the good sets are a little expensive, that's why I went with the MX set. I'm gonna find out here in a few days how good they are as soon as my new clutch gets here. Since your tight on money you can always get non-ceramic bearings. I believe the set for those is only like 35 bucks.

Since you bought it used, do you know how much fuel has been run through the motor? I've got 1 1/2 gal. through mine and the pinch is still tight. But, the only reason for that is cuz I did a lengthy break-in on the motor. Keep us posted and ask away if you need more help.

i run the same motor and love it had a few probs breakin it in but now it's a gem runs sweet seal it up and try it again don't let it throw ya they work fine!

yes its the plastic tune pipe and stock header. the only mods done are the motor for right now

i didn't put in or break in the motor

well for starters b4 you blame a bearing or otherwise that motor will not run right on that pipe.
