Hi all I'm new here so please play nice .

I have just purchased an lrp.32 to put in my savage. I have done alot of youtube and forum reading and understand how and which way a clutch should sit.

If I put the clutch on backwards the springs sit in the clutch nut perfect but if I turn it around the right way the springs sit to high and won't sit in the groove.

Any advice/help would be appreciated thankyou.

I would go with whatever works. I hear of some folks turning shoes around the other way, but I have composite shoes, so...

Hi Rooky thankyou very much for your reply. After reading up on it alot of people have said if they are on the wrong way the engine will spin the shoes the wrong way around which in turn won't open up the clutch shoes so you won't get any drive?

I haven't tried this yet but as the engine is brand new I'd rather make sure it is together 100% before I try and start the run in process.

You're quite welcome. Sorry I can't help much. I'll be keeping an eye on your thread tho, I plan on getting an LRP this season.

No you have helped I will try them the other way around.

I will keep posting as I'm running in the engine. I would imagine it's going to be an animal.

The shoes will open and grip either direction they are mounted. The difference is the characteristics in how and when they engage.

With high power engines in a heavy rig, running the shoes backwards tends to buckle/break them vs running them trailing the rotation.

Usually, you can shove the end of the spring down at an angle into the groove with a small screwdriver after you get the shoe on. What clutch shoes are you using? Perhaps you could use a different flywheel nut with the groove more centered or higher on the nut. Or, you could carefully grind the top of the nut down a couple mm then put a couple washers under it to raise it up a bit. I'm guessing flipping the nut over won't work well to get the springs on...

Other nuts that might work better:

Hi olds thanks for your reply mate. They are krc high performance clutch shoes. Yea I did think about putting a few washers and bringing the nut out a little bit just to get the spring on as long as it won't cause any damage.

Problem is, if you go too far, it will push your bell out, then you will have a gap between it and your flywheel which will cause uneven shoe wear and they will eventually hang on the back edge of the bell. So, it would be best to grind down the face of the nut a bit before putting washers under it so the bell can be shimmed properly too.
