looking for a transmitter

OK gurus my buddy has an ae xp3d transmitter. The reason that is mentioned is I'm going to introduce my 5 year old to nitro rc's on the ae transmitter you can limit servo functions. I'm wanting to just let him learn with my savage, of course under supervision and love the idea of letting him get the feel of it without being able to just thrash the hell out if it because he really doesn't understand throttle control. Any suggestions on a transmitter. Plus its a good excuse for me to tell the wife that I want a new transmitter BTW I know that's a 3 channel transmitter, but 2 channels is all I actually need but I don't mind a 3 channel if there isn't any other options

I'm a huge fan of Futaba radio systems. I have a 4PL myself and it's hands down the best radio I've ever owned.

I would stay clear of an AM or even FM radio. Newer digital radios are far better. If you want to go the Futaba route I'd suggest the Futaba 3PL would make a great radio. A cheaper route would be a Spektrum DX2E. I've also used Spektrum and they make pretty solid radios.

Another still would be Tactic radios like the Tactic TTX300. My father uses this for his Axial SCX-10 and has served him well. Another that I have not tried myself but a few others here seem to like are the FlySky radio systems, I'll let others speak for that brand though.

Any of these radios are going to have throttle end points where you can control just how fast, full throttle will be.

I also am a big fan of Airtronics and Futaba stuff, but my budget is very limited and I got a FlySky GT3B a year or so ago and am very happy with it, i have all my big nitro trucks bound to it and as yet have to encounter any trouble with it..... some say cheaper radio systems are not good , but this little radio has impressed me with all the functions and ability to bind more than 1 truck to it without trouble.......

Thanks guys. I just got a spectrum like 4 days ago and am really enjoying it so far.. And yeah I was hoping to be able to bind it to more than 1 truck since I have more than 1 and really trying to scheme on how to sneak another past the wife. Thanks for the info.

OK but I do have another question, since I just got the spectrum system, will the spectrum receivers bind with any of the other transmitters as long as its 2.4?

I don't believe they will, don't quote me on this , but many of them just don't bind to other transmitters.....

I didn't realise the dx2e would do that.. So much for reading a manual until u said something about it... Smh I just liked the ae one he had because you can store up to 8 or 10 different settings in it. But I didn't realise until reading the manual how easy it was to change it on the spektrum

Just wish I could bind to more than 1 receiver at now.. Oh well.. I'll upgrade again soon and I'm sure I gotta buddy that would love to have the spektrum.. He's still using factory stuff.. No hate, he just needs to upgrade.. I feel in love with upgraded electronics the first time I used them

I've been using the HobbyKing GT2 (similar to the FlySky Gt2) for some time and never had an issue. It's limited compared to the GT3 as it only has trims for steering and throttle as well as steering dual rates. But I'm happy with it and it has never faulted me once. It does not have model memory unlike the Spektrum's but recognizes the GT2 Rx's. So I can bind all my Rx's to the Tx. This means, I need to have the correct truck ON. If I have 2 trucks turned on...the transmitter will be controlling both!! Or...something goes Haywire with the 2 trucks!! Unlike Model matching which Spektrum uses...each Rx is unique and the Tx will lock on to the corresponding model that has been selected on the transmitter.

With regards to if Spectrum Rx's bind to any other 2.4Ghz Tx? Unless the Tx uses the DSM2 or DSM protocol. Each Transmitter brand uses a different system. Futaba has FHSS, FAST, etc where Spectrum uses DSM, DSM2 and the latest DSMX. So to answer your question....unless the Tx and Rx uses the same system, they will bind...if not...nope. You can't bind a DSM2 Rx to a Futaba Tx which is not a DSM system.

@jonesy if you bought it from a local hobby shop, see if they will allow you to return it for the next model up. As the Spektrum DX4C is only $99 and offers support for up to 20 models (using Spektrum receivers).
