getting a 3 speed tranny, does anyone know if you can use the light weight drive gear , idler gear and alu drive gears in the 3 speed or are they only for the 2 speed ,thanks

As far as i know you can use the Ti drive and gear shafts, the idler shaft wont work with a 3 speed, I'm waiting on the top 2 shafts to arrive for my 3 speed.

Oops just noticed your asking about the gears not the shafts, gotta stop posting when I'm tired lol

HPI shows them as option parts for all the 2 speed savages, 25 LE w/3speed and flux but not the XL, strange as i thought the three speed transmissions were all the same but the XL has the high speed third.

ok thanks for that,i also have all 3 ti shafts, for what reason wont the idler shaft work as tranny case is same size

You got me there, i run an XL 3 speed box so when i was looking for the parts i was always looking at compatibility with the XL and it doesnt show the idler shaft as compatible but ive just seen it says compatible with sav 25 LE??

http://www.hpieurope.com/piw.php?lang=en&partNo=86344

But the drive and gear shaft are listed as compatible with the XL.

For that reason i only bought the top 2 Ti shafts, i might just buy the Ti idler shaft and see if it does fit or why it wont in an XL box.

no worries mate, still unsure about lightweight gears though, does the 3 speed need them/ have them/ cant have them due to gear ratio etc

Iv never had a problem with my 3 speed but iv read many people say they are weak, so for that reason personally id probably stick with the stock gears in the 3 speed because those lightweight gears look alot weaker, i only ordered the Ti gear shafts for the sake of it TBH and to see if it makes a little difference.

Maybe all the XL gears are a different ratio to the standard 3 speeds hence the lightweight gears are compatible with the sav LE 3 speed but not XL.

Right now I'm baffled.

This is the stock 2 speed idler. 2 drilled holes

http://www.hpieurope.com/piw.php?lang=en&partNo=86088

The stock XL and sav 25 LE idler which has a third hole drilled and is also an option part for 2 speeds.

http://www.hpieurope.com/piw.php?lang=en&partNo=86361

And the Ti idler which looks the same as the stock 2 speed idler and has 2 drilled holes, looks just like the 2 speed shaft to me but it works in the LE 3 speed.

So if the XL and LE have the same stock idler shaft (3 holes) why wont the Ti shaft work with the XL but it works with the LE?? Surely it would need to have 3 holes drilled like the stock shaft?

Hmmmm confused lol

yes ,see what you mean, maybe different way of fitting in old gearbox's,don't really know, are sav25le's gears steel or plastic ?

looking at the 3 speed in kit form and it doesnt come with any shafts, also asked hpi and they said all 3 three ti shafts will fit, still confused about the xl though
