I've never used a K&N myself but I'd say spend the money on a Motor Saver filter! I've never heard anything good about the K&N's.

k and n let through fine dust particles because they don't use the oiled foams. they work for normal 1/1 engines but these small scale engines do not like the fine dust very much. better to get a motor saver or somethign compariable

Do not use one even if it says it's for RC. The stock HPI one or the motorsaver mentioned above is what you want.

...unless this is for a shelf queen.

Ive seen them and please stay away from them. They let to much crud threw for these engines. The Stock HPI is much better and even better yet the Motorsaver ones.

The reasons the dust has such an affect on these engines is because they use tight tolorances in the front of the engine which with the RPM's and the oil from the fuel they create a seal. If dust gets in this eventually wears out the surfaces which makes it out of tolorance and a seal cannot be created between these surfaces.

All in all just don't use them.

ya k&n filters are the best for real cars and trucks i've heard but not for rc no matter what they say!!

This is an on going debate with alot of RC owners. Some swear by them other hate them and use them only for show and yes they look great. As for me I use one but I never get into real dusty or muddy places with it. If I bash hard I just use the stock Hpi air filter but if I'm bashing on grass with my 4 foot and 8foot jumps I use the K/N. Also with K/N I made extra protection adding the same filter we use for the stock savage. K/N has a great warrantee and claim they will protect you mill I haven't had to do it and hopefully never will. Also there is a oil lub used for it that really protects its's THICK!! All in all I took my new Axial apart and took a very close look and it looks very clean. So my advise would be buy it if nothing else for show or use it in clean area's ie. grass bashing you get great air flow Here are some pics of mine on the Axial 32 Cheers!!

Thats a good looking crankcase breather, LOL J/K. It actually should work ok if you run the prefilter on it as it would help quite a bit more but still not the best for dusty environments. Be carefull!

I love the K&N, there is a noticable power increase between it and the stock hpi filter. But it lets in alot of fine dust. Durring the summer I bash in construction sites mainly, and after a couple weeks I took my motor apart and had a huge build up of mud inbetween my block and sleeve. Surprisingly the motor was fine up until my filter came off and I sucked up a pebble and did a number on the piston, sleeve and head.

Holy crap thats what I'm afraid of. I only run that filter on grass with my jump ramp. If I go on dirt or very dusty roads its the hpi filter but I'll be buying the motor saver soon! Cheers!!
