For the school play a friend and I had to create a remotely driven bed, that rocks in all directions. Our school is showing the play "A Christmas Caro"l, and this bed will be used during Scrooge's nightmares. We took the control systems off of one of our old robots, mounted it on the bed along with 6 air compressors, and a ton of air cylinders, 4 pneumatic pistons(1.5in diameter, 8in stroke) and 3 solenoids to actuate the bed. For the drive train, we have 2 dualie-style wheels in the center, run off of 2 CIM motors each in a tank style configuration. they power the bed, while the rest of it sits on 4 huge casters. Powering the bed from hell are 2 12v 12Ah gel cell batteries in parallel. We will probably have to add a 3rd or 4th if we plan to move the bed while the compressors are running. Frame is made of angle iron, fully welded- the upper facade is made out of plywood, hand made bed posts and an actual mattress. it will be fully fitted with a bed skirt and be completely nondescript when completed. Has enough power to lift 3 good sized people @ 120psi.

These videos are in chronological order of us getting this bed to run. Expect more videos and pictures soon! sorry for no sound on some of them, I didn't realize I had my laptop muted. Also, nothing happens in the first one til 1:30

Now that is some awesome fabrication! Looks like it oughtta be a fun ride, blows the old "Magic Fingers" away... Have you tried it out personally yet?

Did you guys consider a full canopy, or are there height issues with a door somewhere?

wow thats cool! awsome project!!

Sweet man! Did the schools arts department fund that? How long did it take to build?

They funded the main steel chassis- all the running gear is spares from our robotics team

that is pretty cool school project lol nice

Hell yeah- its soo much fun- the thing spins around its axis abnormally fast- fast enough to fling people off.. I drive it during two scenes of the play and the actors who ride in it love it.

Well off I go to school- have screenings of the play to the school.

the only thing that was not done by us two was the welding on the chassis. will get high def pics

(I'm the tall black guy in the vids)money man
