Well i'm new to the forum but started RC's back in 86' witha Big Bear truck which i still have running. I took my savy out for the first time last week and landed wrong breaking the motor and mounts. I went out and purchased a new axial 28. My question is has anyone else had heck of a time turnning the carb around? i have already stripped the hex head screw that you turn to remove carb. Are they all like that?

I just had to do this a couple of days ago. It wasn't very hard turning the carb around, you just have to make sure to take out the two peices where you unscrew the carb. The screw was pretty easy to take out.

I just took it in and the hobby guy said he's never seen one so tight. He got it out and replaced it for free. Shanty do you like the new motor and what did you do for breakin. 3 tanks in circles at low throttle?

It actually was just a customers at the hobby stores I work at. If you want to play it safe just stick with the HPI meathod for the Savage, one tank on idle with wheels off ground. Then a tank with 1/4 throttle burps, then a tank of 1/2 throttle burps, then a tank of 3/4 burps, then a tank of 3/4 to full throttle burps. Make sure to get the temps up to around 200-210. And let the engine cool between tanks. If you feel fairly comfortable do the heat cycle method of break in. Basically what you do it put the truck on the ground run around and get the temps up to 200-210, then run for 5 minutes, shut it down let it cool, do this like 5 or so times. Then once you done that a couple of times, do the same process but run for 7 minutes. Vary the RPM and don't go full throttle during these tanks.

Got through the third tank and it wont idle any more and when it does start the rpms go through the roof.

The engine sounds to have an airleak or carb is set lean (put needles back to factory setting )

I have owned two Axials (28 RR spec 1 & 32 spec 1)

If it is not idleing nice and smooth through four break in tanks, STOP

check everthing

- orings in carb needles
- check engine for air leaks
- pull your glo plug check for bright glo
- check fuel tank for air leak
- check fuel filter for debree
- empty fuel tank refill to top with fresh nitro
- check the air cleaner (don't forget to oil it)
- seal engine

good luck

Yep for sure. If the engines is racing and your carb idle is set close to 1mm gap then you are sucking air from somewhere else too. I have 3 axials do exactly the same. Mine was the mid speed needle.
