Hey guys, you'll have to excuse me as this is my first thread here and despite having a few years forum experience I'm actually a little nervous. lol

My HPI Savage Flux is my first HPI vehicle and obviously my first Savage, this is not a build thread because I just can't compete with some of the builds on this forum. They're freakin' awesome!

My Flux 2350 was bought used from a forum member here in the UK and despite being a 2350 it came with an HPI Blur ESC and Torx 2200kv motor from a Vorza Flux.

Did a couple of basic mods shortly after getting it, switched the battery boxes so the doors open out, removed the stock door catches and added Velcro straps (please excuse the Losi straps, all I had at the time).

  • EDIT Racing Joint Bars
  • Alza Racing Bulkhead Conversion Kit
  • Alza Racing XL Motor Plate
  • Golden Horizon Servo saver Assembly
  • HPI Savage Sway bar Kit

With the Alza Racing XL motor plate I found the stock mount for the ESC looked odd mounted in the stock placement with all the extra room so had to come to a decision, my thoughts.

Alza Racing XL Motor Plate.

Stock.

IMG_20110516_101011.jpg

On the plate to the side.

IMG_20110516_101057.jpg

On the plate centred.

IMG_20110516_101131.jpg

With the centre option I did consider using the Traxxas ESC holder and drilling a couple holes through the plate but I found this fowled the motor and diff pinion outdrive so I opted for the centre placement on the motor plate but just using tape. Still have yet to run it for a longer period to gauge temps with less air flow.

Will get some more posted soon, thanks for looking.

PS. Sorry for the poor picture quality!

Looking good. Looks like you have put some thought into where you are spending your money.

Thanks Pope, I think the Savage in general although a little dated is a very strong truck and extremely bashable but I wanted to make a few adjustments, tweaks and upgrades to make it that little bit bash friendly.
Hope the changes I make are do the truck justice, have to add I've had some great advice from Savage owners here in the UK.

Man I wish all this electric stuff wasn't so forign to me I think it looks sweet. But can't afford the trial n error of it so I stuck with nitro its what I know and what made me interested in this addiction to begin with. Looks good jay. Nice job

It's really not that hard to get your head around mate and we all have to start somewhere. I was the other way around, my first RC was leccy and because my first real introduction to RC was nitro I've always hankered after a nitro. I had to own a nitro, the smell and sound are awesome so now I do but leccy is so much easier with it's plug in and play, it's cleaner etc. I do love both but I personally find leccy less hassle.

I love all my RC's and wouldn't get rid of any of them.

savage has been around for a long time and that makes it a great basher because of all the readly avalible parts for it. It is the cheepest of all of them to keep up for this reason.

Maybe Stateside but not here in the UK, the dollar is $1.56 roughly to the pound atm but we pay around the same price in pounds as you guys pay in dollars for RC parts that are distributed here.
I tend to import parts myself unfortunately I do get caught sometimes by UK Customs for import duties but then there are times when I don't so it does work out cheaper to import myself.
My HPI Flux XL Conversion, GH Racing Servo Saver Assembly, HPI HD High Speed Idler Gear and HPI HD Drive Gears were all imported by me and no import charges were incurred. Very nice but expecting to get caught again soon.
Alza Racing is great for me as being a part of Europe there are no import charges, great stuff!

Thanks Mickey!

Some advice please guys, I've just ordered some HPI Aluminium BB's. Are the Hellfire Aluminium Shock caps the only aluminium shock caps that fit the BB's?

Thanks all.

JayJ.

Does the HB Aluminium Shock Cap for the HB D8/T and HPI Vorza fit the Savage BB Bodies? #67433

These for the Hellfire do though, right?

Look what arrived today.

I'm over geared as it is with the stock 20t pinion and the 39t idler gear!
That was going to be one of my questions to this forum of gearing experts, gearing is not my forte.
Larger wheels is the equivalent of gearing up right so I need to drop a tooth or two, maybe three?
What about keeping the 39t idler and going with an 11t pinion on 6s??
Would I get the motor close enough to the spur or would I have to mod the chassis/TVP's?

frddy I know you've already recommended I drop the 39t idler gear but I bought the idler for the fact it's HD so what are my options here with the Baja wheels?
Your advice would be appreciated!!

It has been suggested to me to use a lower kv motor, a 1600kv or 1400kv with the 39t idler and a 16t pinion on 6s.

Any thoughts?

yeah lower kv here is your friend

Thanks for the reply fella, appreciate it!!!

Want to get some Uber RC Covered Wheels Nuts, def putting another body on this but not sure whether to get a Gigante or a Pro-Line Desert Rat?

Have yet to run it as is, been working on it all day and only finished 9:30ish tonight. It's been hammering down ever since so hopefully get to have a go tomorrow. Pulled the 39t idler for now, dropped the pinion to a 19t which I thought was an 18t until I opened the pack so will have get some more pinions.

Hope y'all like! :whistling:

I really like the brace idea for the shocks. Are those the upper a-arm pin braces?

Yes fella they are upper a-arm pin braces, just gives a little extra strength to the shock tower when they are under load. Was just going to use one part tower which I bought but then obviously had two left when I installed the suspension conversion kit so used those too.

Thanks, Jason.

It looks nice.

I have today machined some upper arm braces from 3mm 7075 T6.
Boy are they strong compared to original purple ones.
The purple ones I can bend with bare hands, I was unable to bend
T6 ones with hands.

Dejan

Thanks Dejan!

The upper arm braces sound nice, might invest in some when funds allow.

Question guys, I want to mount an RX box to the Alza Racing servo plate and ideally one with enough space for my Rx (SR3000) and some wires including Y-Harness from my BEC.
Tried an E-Revo box I had lying around but it's too small, would an RPM Associated GT box be big enough or any other recommendations please?

Thanks, Jason.

Small addition to the flux XL, some Uber RC Covered Wheel Nuts.
