I am getting ready to replace the clutch shoes in my truck, and I was wondering whether I should install the shoes leading or trailing - and why?

Thanks!

Pretty sure they are designed to trail. Never heard of anybody putting them on the other way, but I could be wrong. I have mine trailing and no complaints here. If you decide try them the other way let us know what happens LOL.

This is one of the unfortunate side effects of being a noob and reading a bunch - the HPI manual for the Hellfire mentions this but i haven't seen it anywhere else 🙂

The way they are hinged it makes sense for them to be trailing, they wouldn't swing out as easily if they were leading. Also I remember that my dynamite max-life shoes have a little bump on the side to give a small amount of clearance between the shoes and the flywheel so they are meant to go on that way.

ive heard this as well bob, that it Could be done leading. however, ive not met anyone thats run them this way.

the theory i heard is that they give a harder bite when you yank the trigger. but again, ive not known anyone thats actually done it.

i say give it a try if you have interest & time to try it. worst can happen is you turn em around.

Ok been there and done that and wont be going back there again, really snappy off the line and hard to feather the trigger as the shoes either grab or don't there is no slippage.

Awsome set up if your doing straight line drags on concrete but also the drive train takes a hit with the snap

yes i've heard of installing them the oppisite way to but most didnt like the way the clutch engages and disengages with them like that........

Cool, thanks gents -I figured out so far to not believe or rely on everything you read in the manuals - just wanted to bounce it off those that actually know 🙂
