I have ran 2 gallons on my savage xl and needed to replace diffs because a front diff case bearing gave out and had play and stripped a pinion. Ok i went and bought the bp diffs and new bearings also the 5.9 pos threw a rod and bought a lrp .28. Now while assembling it i decided to remove the wheel bearings and let them soak on denatured alcohol and couple of bearings are broken great more parts to order what sucks is that the closest hobby shop is a hour away. I have seen some bearing sets on ebay for like 35 bucks are those better than the stock crap? Any thoughts thanks lmk.

I doubt that kit will last the life of the truck they are just normal bearings not ceramic. I use Avid RC Bearings in my 3 savages and couldnt be happier. At a buck a piece you cant go wrong. You could buy 3 full sets from Avid for the price of Boca's that you linked and the Avids last a long time. Unless you are racing IMO you don't need expensive bearings unless you like spending big bucks that you could spend on a good pipe (ERCM) for your new LRP. Here is there website avidrc.com. If you want search for avid bearing reviews and you will see what I mean 🙂 http://www.rctech.net/forum/nitro-off-road/241531-avid-bearings-decent-quality.html

Hey robsmith I see that the bearings that are a buck a pop are the metal and the rubber ones which one do you use? Also do they sell a complete kit or you have to piece it one by one? Thanks lmkhpisfgreen

For wheel bearings I have only tried the rubber ones. The thing with bearings is rubber seals causes more friction thus bearing has more drag on it than metal shielded but keeps more dirt out. Some guys are running the revolutions (1 side rubber 1 side metal) with good results, They just face the rubber side to the outside where the most dirt is.

I myself like the rubber seals as the offer the most protection. They do not offer full kits but it is very simple just use your xl manual and pick and choose. There steel cutchbell bearings work great also.

This is what would order

8x16x5 rubber x 14
-8 for your wheels
-4 for your bulks that hold your 9 tooth bevel (front and back)
-2 for you diffs (1 for front and 1 for back that go on 29t bevel)

10x16x5 rubber x2
- For your diffs (1 for front and 1 for back that go on alloy diff case)

5x10x4 metal x4 (2 changes)
- Clutchbell bearings

And if you haven't upgraded your steering crank to bearings instead of bushings you can order these
6x10x3 metal x4

I have ran 8 gallons + on my one 2 speed tranny 6+ gallons on my other 2 speed and 3 gallons on my 3 speed and have yet to change the internal bearings so I would wait to order tranny bearings if you only got 2 gallons on your XL. Diff, wheel bearings, and clutchbell bearings are what you are going to go through.

So thats 22 bearings is that all the truck not including the tranny gears? I think I will try them out and see how I like them. thanks guys for you great input I appreciate it.

Those bearings will do your Wheels(8), Diffs(8), and clutchbell(4) = 20 bearings .

And if you get the (4) 6x10x3 will do steering crank = 24.

No problem for the help.

I hate to see guys spend lots of $$ on things that are not needed if there is a much cheaper solution that works.

For the price of Avid Bearings even if you did have to change out bearings in your wheels and diffs every 2-3 gallons that is like $20 so for $140 you could basically have 14-21 gallons worth of bearings compared to $140+ for Ceramic bearings that would not last the life of your truck.

Ceramics are supposed to give you less rolling resistance but IMO to the average basher not counting lap times you would never notice the difference. Just my 2 cents.
