I have a 5.9 that wont return to a clean idle. acting lean revving high at closed throttle after a wot. I have adjusted the low speed needle till its ready to fall out. And the high speed till its way rich and wont Rev out. Same problem exists.very high "runaway"idle for about 4 to 8 seconds then a normal idle.throttle is closing fully,I've replaced all o rings in it, replaced the output shaft bearing, siliconed the rear cover, siliconed my Carb clamp bolts, new fuel line,in tank filter is easy to blow thru, tank is air tight, and ive done the under water blow test no bubbles any where......This motor runs very strong except this one issue. Any ideas out there? Its a 2 speed savage x.......

I'd say look into you idle gap. If it is too big and you come off of the throttle and it revs normally that would say lean HSN, but sounds like your still sucking too much air and not getting enough fuel causing it to rev.

Post a video if you can

BTW no reason to get defensive. He listing options bud.

Mine has been doing this as well, except richening the HSN seems to help with mine. Then as the tank gets lower it will start doing it again. It seems as if I'm experiencing more HTL than I used to. I can't figure out what changed. I have to make adjustments periodically through the level of the tank to keep performance at peak, or just top the tank off when it starts acting/sounding lean. Good luck with yours man, it sounds like an air leak issue to me too. This may have been checked already but did you take off the heat sink head and engine button and inspect them?

Hey there welcome to the forums. Again this sounds like a lean issue. I would try and run the truck again inspecting the fuel lines. Run it with the body off till it gets warmed up enough to do the high idle. Run it wot for a good run straight at you then stop it in front of you and quickly inspect the fuel lines to look for air bubbles. Some fuel filters can leak when they get hot. Good luck.

jaybird where u from? I know someone who in my home town who we call jaybird... just curious if you don't mind me asking

I ran the 5.9 And had similar problems Tried everything took out the stock clucth shoes which were sticking Filed dowm Atiny bit so they didnt stick on the fly wheel any more THe problem was improved greatly.SO if your cluch shoes are still stock. Try it see if it helps.Hope it helps.Good Luck

Nitrobashin is the man. I have performance clutch vented bell with aluminum shoes took it apart and the top edge flywheel side of the shoes had a lip and was hanging up on the flywheel. I filed off the lip put it back together and its running like a champ now. Thanks to all for the help. And savageguy I wasn't trying to be a smart *** but I had tried and tested all your suggestions and it was described in my first post. No hard feelings I hope. And I'm located in avoca, IN MOrphin3

Hey Glad to hear you fixed it! I spent monthes trying to get to the bottom of the problem. Hope you can enjoy the truck now. Good luck!

thanks for the update jaybird, i thought u might of been someone else lol.. its all good and I'm glad you got everything sorted out, bash on and welcome to HPISF

I had that problem with the stock shoes on my XL also. I run the Dynamite Max-Life DYNP5180's now and they allow a small gap for clearance between the shoes and the flywheel. Mushrooming shoes don't cause as much of a problem now.
