How to remove wheel hub adapter?

Hey guys I need to remove and replace some axles but I'm confused as to how the silver hex wheel hub adapters come off?

Looking at the manual it looks like they should slide off but mine aren't aand I don't wanna force it if that's the wrong tactic.

So it seems like the plastic one slides on to the axle fairly smoothly - there's not much resistance.

But that aluminium one is not coming off the old axle for some reason. Any ideas guys?

Ok, so for the benefit of others, it seems this part was loctite'd on or something. Took a large force with 2x flat head screwdrivers to get it off! The adapter falls off the new axle so I guess I'll need to do something similar on the return leg
