How do you diagnose a blown diff?

Hi all,

I've been away from my truck for quite a long time. Getting back into it, I have a Savage X with a new LRP .28r mill. I don't really have an issue but I'm wondering how you determine that the diff is an issue??

I'm looking for tips other than take it apart and look around 🙂

if you roll it by hand and its making a clicking noise while doing so, you probably have a stipped pinion.

+1, when you hear a crunching sound like your savage is eating pretzel rods, its pointing you toward a blown diff

Okay, thanks guys. It's hard to tell what is crunching, seems my brakes make quite a grind.

I noticed when I walked the truck (on a leash) back down the basement the wheels locked briefly. Enough for me to go hmmm. I guess I'll have to pull the diffs an check.

lift the truck off the ground and roll the tires and listen close. if you grenaded a diff you'll prob hear it.
