Sorry to sound like a newbie, lol. I bought my x 4.6 about a month ago, First HPI vehicle and I love it.

I have the stock 4.6 with a THS exhaust so far I haven't had any problems. I picked up the new era 125cc tank mod from my LHS, it was in the "bargin bin" for $10, but I haven't installed it yet, cause I haven't noticed any issues that would make me think I have the half tank lean problem. From reading I think it's safe to assume it happens with every Savage cause of the tank design. My truck seems to run fine through a entire tank of fuel. Temps usually range from 230-250, I check it often while bashing. So far the trucks held a great tune, way better then my Jato 3.3, lol.

So i'm basically asking what the symptoms are for the HTL issue?

when you reach the lower half of the tank this is when you will see your truck start to lean out , you can tell either by sound, smoke or temperature increase .
what a most do to avoid the HTL is to run a richer setting then they aren't hurting the motor at all . by the sounds of things your not running a really lean truck so you will be fine , I know my one truck I noticed it more I have a mid tank done to it , my sts truck I can tell right away when it's half tank by sound and the wasp truck I haven't noticed it at all.

+1.

when my sav had the stock motor in it i added a THS 8025 and it developed a wicked htl. Sound and lack of smoke is a dead give-a-way. it also increased in power and temp due to the increase of air lack of fuel.

:slayer:

yep increase in power towards the end of the tank is how i came to notice it. then after reading more about it started to check temps and sure enough...

I've been beating my head against the wall wondering what the heck my problem was. I dial my tune in every time i start to run and wondered why it seems to lean out after awhile. So now I believe I know the problem.

Do you think raising the tank would fix this? Or is it a tank design problem and the sloshing around of fuel is causeing air to mix with the fuel? (The HPI Proceed had that problem.) I believe I could raise the tank at it's present location. Has anyone tried that? I would hate to waist my time if it is already known not to work. I'm lazy!!
