Well, I went with jam 1 and redesign the air filter routing. The way I had it, the access to the receiver box would have been a pain. So here's what I went with.

Well I am using a FlySky GT3b radio, I think it's a good budget set. It has 10 memory setting so great if you have more than one truck like me. Some people slate them but have found them ok if you don't want to spend silly money. The receivers are cheap to at under £10 each. Think I paid £38.99 for my set up early last year, came with 2 receiver and have since added 8 more.
They do take 8 AA batteries which makes them quite heavy but I like the extra weight. I use 2500mha rechargeable ones and have only had to charge them twice since I've had it. You can put a LiPo pack in it if you want. The GT3c is the next one up and only uses 4 AA batteries. I would recommend one I love mine.
Only reason I have been messing around with the HPI TF-40 setup is cause I've run out of memory positions on it, but think I will get another one or a GT3c for the rest of my trucks.
If you search YouTube there are plenty of articles about them. some bad but most good.

What receivers you got bud, are they the FlySky GR3-e ? If so yes they are really small & yes the antenna wire is only about 6" but they work really great, I have them in all my trucks and not had any problems with the range on them. Also allows for the aerial tube to stay within the bodyshell which saves on breakage when you put it on it's roof.

Yes. Plus, I install a charging lead for the battery when it gets here.

Blimey would love it to be 18 degrees here my friend!
Have you got the newer receiver box so you can fit charge point under rubber bung, can’t see exactly?

I bought a couple of receiver hump batteries and wanted a way to charge them without taking the cover off the truck. So, I bought on & off switch that has a charger wire so I can charge it. It's just a charging wire.

So take it you haven’t got the updated receiver box, where charging plug is fixed in position behind rubber bung then?
I'm assuming you mean the box that holds the servos and battery and receiver. The box is off a first gen savage .21, so it didn't come with a charger point on the box.

Yes both radio boxes are interchangeable with each other. The newer style are so much easier to access plus the charge port and battery indicator slot are a nice addition.
Nice, I have a question about the FlySky GT3b radio, and receiver. I paired it to the receiver, but channel 1 for the steering is not working. I did check the servo with the stock radio and receiver, it works. The steering servo is a (BETU 35kg Waterproof Servo). Is there an adjustment on the transmitter?
Thanks Dave

Turn the plug on the servo 180 and plug it back in see if it works

I scored some GPM racing arms and shock towers. Decided to put them on blue truck. I think Blue Savage is DONE!!!

Can I run the receiver on a 7.4 battery pack? or is a 6.6 safer.

Those receivers are 6 volt, you may be able to get away with 6.6 but I would play it safe and solder in a dropping resistor to take the voltage down to a safe 6 volts, I have heard of guys using over 6 volts but it can be a chance it will cost you a RX
