Hi,

Iam in the process of setting my shift points for the first time ever. I have a K4.6 with a Buku pipe. I have the 1 to 2 set at 1 1/2 turns and the 2 to 3rd I guessed at 1 1/3rd turns, does that sound close?

My first run was terrible, the motor winds out very quickly and the truck has no acceleration like it did. I think it is going right into 3rd gear very quickly. I am not sure of anything at this point, I would expect the motor to bog down, not wind out. I think the clutch is slipping is causing that. (I am overdue for a clutch too) Dos this sound correct?

Anybody have any tips, tricks or default settings to start with on this motor? Any advice for a newbie? Or is this just a matter of trial and error?

Something I just thought of, I have the HS 3rd gear installed, I used the gear that is too thick and rigged it in there, I am wondering if that may be causing this? I think I will put the right one back before I continue.

thanks

Could someone tell me, do I want to shift sooner or later for a more powerfull motor?

and if anyone knows, do I want to shift sooner or later for bigger tires?

I think it later (tighter spring) for both?

thanks

You want to shift later for a more powerful motor, meaning it should shift harder because the motor has more power. You will really just have to play with it because everything affects it.

Yea dude the 3 speed is a PITA !! Adjust the 3 rd gear so it WONT shift to 3rd .. then you can dial in the 1 to 2nd shift points. once you get them dialed in move on to 3rd gear .. GOOD LUCK!

I wanted to thank you guys for the help, my tranny has been set for the .25 engine the whole time Ive had it in there, someone told me they came set from the factory so I never messed with them, just didn't tell me they were set for the 25 from the factory.

what a difference is all I can say, I actually was leaving black tire marks on the concrete and an old piece of plywood that was laying o the ground!

now I just have to get the 2-3 set

thanks again
