my sons savage is having slipper clutch problems I think. when I push it forward the truck will move then I pull it backwards it locks up won't do anything and I don't know what is causing this problems
Sounds more like your gear mesh has changed... check for cracks in the engine mount plate and if thats all good reset the mesh so it has a slight tick of play between the clutch bell gear and the spur gear.....
I will check that it's just weird when I push the truck forward it moves fine but the slipper gear isn't moving I have another savage and when I push it forward the slipper moves
That may just be because of the one-way bearings in the automatic transmission. If the spur gear is too tight against the clutch bell, then the one way bearings will allow the truck to roll without spinning the spur. When you try to roll it backwards those one way bearings won't slip, so the stuck spur gear prevents the truck from rolling.
Could also be the clutch in the clutch bell is toast and hanging on the bell or the bell bearings are fried not letting it spin. Pull the engine out, then push the truck backwards to see if you need to work inside the trans or if the issue is just in the bell/clutch.
