It's a steep learning curve this Savage ownership business..

As a special treat for my Savage, I thought I'd treat it to a new glowplug. When I went in the shop I was served by a person who I'm sure was depriving a village of their idiot, but I assumed he knew more than me about these things...

He sold me an MP JET Glowplug, Racing Short Model, Model Number 6006. When asked if this was the correct one, he said 'I think it'll fit!'

Before trying to fit it, I just tried looking for more info but my Googling skills are a bit rusty.

Any ideas, team?

I believe it's a stock Savage X 4.6 big block engine. The one with out the flutes cut into the cooling fins

Thanks for the help, peeps.

So are most plugs a standard size then? I'm guessing you can get away with a short plug where there's meant to be a long one, but not vice versa?

You can go vise-versa however either way you will not get a full burn. The short plug in a long plug button will decrease compression ratio and a long plug in a short plug button will increase compression which generally gives more torque however, it will not get a full burn because the plug sticks into the concave of the button.

Generally speaking it is best to have the correct length plug so that it sits flush with the crown of the concave in the button. Also, most big blocks are standard or long plugs but most high end mills are Turbo plugs which is the best way as they last much longer and seem to burn the best.
