I know there are several people on here who either play online PC games personally, or are very computer literate, so I thought I'd ask...

my kids have, once again, ruined my headphones...this time it was my fancy Zalman 5.1's...has anyone used the USB surround headphones? (not the el-cheapo knock-offs) I currently don't have a really good soundcard in my machine, but the on-board sound can support many channels, and therefore 5.1 surround...I have a used/untested Audigy 2 that I've been meaning to test, and if it works, use it, but if the USB ones work good, I won't bother...either way, I need some new phones...

but now, since I'm in the market for a new set, I'm curious about the USB phones...anyone have any experience with them? or heard anything good or bad about them?

Also, I'm not quite clear on how they work...obviously they would need their own, different drivers? since it's not a traditional headphone/soundcard interface...

thanks in advance for the help fellas!!

anyone?!?! mega? you're computer literate...any help would be great!

I haven't looked into USB headphones myself, I would guess since this is a serial connection that the headphone's onboard hardware is going to be the deciding factor on how they sound, If you need drivers they will come with the phones anyway so I wouldn't worry about that too much. Iam thinking they probably sound great, just because your not sending analog signals through the coper there shouldn't be any loss or noise.

thaat' about all I can say, never really though about them before

Ok I am like you in a way, I have always used the standard plugs that plug into the motherboard and look just like standard headphones that you can plug into your CD players, ipods ect. I don't have a USB headphone at my house but at school we use the USB headphones and they seem to be much nicer in the quality. I have looked into them before and yes the drivers come with them when you buy them. If I was comparing my headset from the house to the ones at school the school headphones would blow my house headset out of the water, amazing quality. Now I also only paid $20 for my headphones but still all the USB headphones I have seen are much better sound quality but then the downside is that if you want to listen to your Ipod, cd player, ect you cant because it is USB, unless you can get an adapter for it which I have not looked for.

Hope this helps.

That is the headphones that we have at school. A little pricey but well worth the money IMO and also mega might be able to recommend some better ones but I just happen to have used those at school.

that helped alot, thanks bud! I just basically wanted to know how the sound quality compared to the traditional headphone jacks from someone who had actually used them...

are your $20 phones 5.1 surround capable? I'm just curious, cuz if they are, that's a killer price...but I think I'm going to try the USB ones this time...they shouldn't be hard to install, etc, since USB is pretty much plug and play...and I've seen decent brand USB surround phones for around $40-ish...my Zalman's cost more than that...LOL

thanks again!!
