This can't happen currently because I'm awaiting back pay from social security, but in my freetime I've been looking at savages as many say they are the most durable truck out there. Since I can no longer work I need something to keep me occupied, so I'm liking the Savage X SS as it's a kit and will really help me learn how everything's laid out. But, my wife says it has to be electric because of noise and the recurring cost of fuel. So what I'm wondering is how many have converted an SS to brushless, and if this would be logical or would I spend a lot more money than going with the Flux?

go nitro man its not like you are going to want to run it in the house. You are going to want to bash that thing on the most hostile stuff you can find. Batts have their own set of problems not the least of which is even after you buy the flux you still need $200 in batts and around a hundred for a charger. then you have to wait a half hour after every 15-20 min to recharge them and they don't last nearly as long as a nitro motor will if you take care of it. You will even out between the two at some point but the start up for the flux is double that of the x ss. Welcom to the club.

might be cheaper to do a ground up build or get a sick hobbies roller. you don't wanna pay for a nitro mill if your not gonna use it. even if you don't save a lot of $$, you'll have a 10x better truck than a flux if you build it ground up.

go nitro? but he might want to go fast :bolt:

I'm not trying to set in crazy speed goals, but I'd have to drive over an hour to the nearest LHS to get the fuel, and I already have the batts and charger.

The roller looks like a possible idea, but and I would lose the building of the kit, and by the time I buy the wheels, tires, hubs, and suspension, then sell off the new 4.6 it would equal out to close to the same.

Oh No bro, not taken that way. Also, you gotta build your truck the way YOU want, thats what is fun & great about this hobby.

I'm just thinking if you get a Xss kit there's gonna be a bunch of parts that you cant use right out the box so you'll need to replace or modify:
Nitro Mill, TVP's, Motor plate, Tranmission...

i got most of the parts needed thru e-bay & from members on this site that had stuff to sell & bought flux c/f tvps, motor plate & mid plate to build up.

still fun to build from ground up, but you get better parts for less money.

Not that I'm saying you should do this.

what you SHOULD do is make a list of what you want & how much it will cost & then do a thread of the build caz we'd love to see it & learn from your build.

Kershaw Designs makes some kits that might bolt right up to the Xss kit, check it out https://www.hpisavageforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11862

ive built a "roller" from ebay parts and you get to build it like a kit without having to worry about selling off the unneeded motor and what not.
check out these 2 places.... they will have the essentials.
http://stores.shop.ebay.com/NITRONUTZZ__W0QQ_armrsZ1
http://shop.ebay.com/merchant/plcman1_W0QQ_nkwZQQ_armrsZ1QQ_fromZQQ_ipgZ

then for tvp's either get stock flux tvps, prc CF tvps OR team tcs tvp's (cheapest and best bang for the buck imo)
http://www.tcscrawlers.com/Hop-Up-Parts-p-1-c-297.html

at the end of the build you will spend about the same amount of money on a rtr "roller" with no electronics BUT the way you want it with some hop up parts.

to make it electric plan on spending a total of around $600 but keep in mind that will have hop up parts in it, don't think to yourself thats the same price as a flux cuz yes it is but a flux is stock and already built.
