hello! on my savage x 4.6 i noticed that the orange o ring for the fuel tank doesn't seem to seat nicely on the lid/cap. everytime i push the cap lid closed, the o ring seems to come out and it like half falls into the fuel tank opening. i inspected the o ring and it isnt brittle and looks perfectly like brand new. when i reinstall it on the lid it seats fine but when the lid is closed it seems to want to fall out as the tank kinda hits it at one side which makes it unseat

is the remedy just a new o ring? the old o ring looks compeletly fine.
anything else i can try or do to get it to seal?

thx

Never had an issue with it like you describe, has the lid spring got bent & not closing square to top Of tank?

no it seems perfect the lid closes perfectly fine and the spring has tons of tension. i think its because the o ring isnt grasping onto the lid tightly so when the lid lowers into the cap and its time for the o ring to provide the seal, it kinda moves and ruins the seal. if that makes sense

I too seemed to have a solid closing issue. I used an old spring. connected it to the cap and hooked it under the tank. keeps it closed nice and tight.

@pelicanprentice

I CHECKED WITH HPI THEY STATED. THE FUEL LID O-RING IS A 2.4MM X 18.0MM. IT IS A BUNA-N TYPE "NITRILE" MATERIAL FOR THE 160CC FUEL TANK.

I have a savage fuel tank that has this ring shape plastic from lid fallen off. Just eyeballing it and cant unerstand how its supposed to stay in there. Nothing seems broken. Wonder if theres any exploded view of the fuel tank somewhere?

Funny you guys mention this , I had the same exact issue. What's happening is over a long period of time, nitro fluid is causing the tank lid o-ring to swell and not allow the lid to fully close. My savage 25 I bought around 2002 . I cant help you with an exact p/n for a replacement as I just used and oring that I had in my stash and it fit perfect. All's you need is an oring that will seal the inside diameter of the fuel tank opening. You also need the tank to hold pressure so blow into the exhaust pressure port on the cap, plug the fuel outlet port and verify the tank can hold pressure.

Ok. Anybody know how that plastic part should be attached to fuel tank lid? Goes in and comes out freely. Its job seems to be hold gasket in place.

for some reason i don't have that exact piece. let me look again maybe i dropped it

I figured it out from other fuel gap. The circle ring inside the cap is held by small plastic clip. So if yours is lost then just glue that circle plastic to place.

yea and what if the O-ring goes bad?

just don't glue it with super glue so it never comes off, but with a glue that is low strength/hold so you can replace the rubber o-ring in the future if needed.

OR drill a tiny hole in the middle tube thing of the cap, put the inner cap on, and put a tiny screw in the tiny hole..

can someone attach a pic of the peice I'm missing. so i have the o ring and i have that small circilar piece that holds the o ring in place but that plastic piece ends up popping off after some time. seems like theres something that holds that plastic peice in place too and i might ahve it laying around
