Thats right! we need advice as we are taking on a track totaly made of H20!! Frozen that is! we plan on removing the snow to make the track or simply useing track dots if it decides not to snow.. so to make this happen we need your advice. Nitrogirl had talk with some of you in the shout box for info, we need it more than ever now. here is my first MOD to get my savy moving on ice "don't let ascender Know"

Here is a few ideas.

All you will need for this MOD Is
I know i used ele tape but this was a test! (Use Duct Tape)
a hand full of push pins
old tires n rims
tireice001.jpg

Turn the tire inside out

Now i like to place the pins towards the outside of the tire so they grab in the corners.

Now use the duct tape to hold the pins in place
tireice005.jpg

turn the tire right side out and glue to rim as normal...

i don't know if the push pins will take the torque. I'm going to use automotive trim screws they have a nice flat head and about a 1/8 inch shaft at a half inch long

yes i have had some break in the past but do to them on th out side of the tire they really don't do much till you turn.. i have tested this in the winter before but ever on a frozen pond.. can you put a pic up of what you would use??

You bet, just be careful it's not fed by a spring, the ice is usually thin around that area. We drive our 1:1's out on the lake to go ice fishing in the winter, just be cautious of your surroundings and you'll be fine.

I used to stud my banshee tires the same way as Robins pics. It would wheelie on the ice all day long. Also steer better then on dirt. don't put anything point out. Just use sheet metal screws in and let the head do the work its all you need. putting them point out makes them erratic and adds stress they don't need and the rubber cant take well. Also limit your suspension you wont be needing much at all when you running on "glass".

Hints for the pond:
Cut a hole in the ice and flood the top after it snows and you have shoveled/plowed /snow blowd' it first. (cheap Zamboni) sump pump or any pump will work. I have a 4 inch mud sucker that makes fast work of it. After the ice is over 8 inches we drive the pickups out and plow. 6 inches will hold a full size truck but we don't push it lol. Also good for hockey and just skating around... Next day its glass again ... Also I wont walk on it till it hits 5 inchs. I went threw 4 as a kid and Ill never forget it. But that was a weak point.

You HAVE to have someone els with you, peeps die every year from going through the ice, you NEED someone to help or at least call for help. Buddy system FTW.

they do look cool and painful all wrapped up in one.

If you look at Robins first pic those are real ice racing screws. they are V cut and work sweet. you also see the 90 buck price tag. With a dremil and a lil time you could even do this to the sheet metal screws being as you don't need many. but I know you don't need to for them to work sweet...
