Hey whats up everyone....

alright....heres the deal...over the past few weeks everyonce in a while my rotostart will free spin and thus the engine doesnt try to start or even turn over.... sometimes if i just wait 5 minutes it will work...or sometimes it will work right away if i stay on the rotostart for 10-15 seconds...

well today it got worse. it wouldnt start at all....i tried multiple times throughout the day with no luck. but finally at the end of the day it started...ran great...just like normal....started up great....

i know thats not right so...what should i start looking for? OWB? if so does anyone know the part number?
Savage X 4.6 RTR

to be honest i don't even know what the OWB is...i assume pull the back plate off the engine start assembly?

I'm not sure about your engine, but the OWB may be external or internal. Yes, you have to remove the back plate if it's internal. If it's external it should sit on a shaft when you remove your backplate. If not, then go ahead and remove the backplate. It should be in there. Then after spraying it reinstall everything and test it out. I'm assuming you have the stock engine. They sell the OWB fix on eBay so that it uses a regular hex nut instead of the OWB. There's a thread about it on here.

Savage RTR has the F4.6 in it and its an external OWB. part number is 1430. All you will have to do is take off the rotostart assy. Cleaning it will get you a little more use out of it, but you will eventually be buying another.

BTW welcome to the forum!

here is what to do, get mentholated spirits and soak one way bearing in if for a few hours.... reinstall.... (should be fixed)

i just went through this same prob. it could be the OWB but with mine it was the gears inside. so i got a pull start and ill never go back

i have had many problem with that and i'm think about a pull start - i don't see what the difference is going to be though, anyway i drilled a hol in the back plate so that when it free spins i spray some wd40 - brake cleaner and wait (blow on it ) and its good o ya i place a hole in the bottom for it to drain out- i noticed the shaft my OWB sits on is where the oil leaks from into / onto my owb

If you have the F4.6 or similar engine from HPI, there is an internal o-ring that seals the starting shaft. This o-ring has a tendency to wear out, so I would pull the back plate off and replace the o-ring. The o-ring is 5x8x1.5mm. It is the same o-ring that is on the fuel tank mounts. This should reduce the amount of oil that gets by the starting shaft. It can be a pain to replace however, a hooked probe, like those used at the dentists makes it easier.

well i would pull out your engine take off the back plate clean it all up clean the OWB and re install evry thing try that and if keeps slipping then just get a new OWB!

P.S- if you live by Canadian Bearing, go there and by the one way bearing for $5 and then press out the old bearing from the nut and then press in the new OWB !

you drilled the back plate of the roto start cover? Drill the back plate and you will have leak issues...

OWB's for that mill
