Well, I tried 🙂 We had a bunch of crappy weather out here yesterday, so I thought I would try to paint a body. I picked up a Pro Line Dodge Megacab body and some inside-the-body decals, and tried to make them work. Turns out the blue I got was translucent, not opaque, so it ran like a mofo, had to back everything in black to try to save it, and that washed out the decals - but, the intent was 1) to kill some time and 2) make a nice body, so 1 for 2 isnt too bad!

Still needs to be trimmed, but it's better than nothing!

Way Way better than my first try! Looks good! I don't even try any more.Keep practicing youll have amazing lids! Wish mine looked like that!

Hard to tell from the pics, but it looks like it's suppossed to be like that. I enjoy doing lids myself, so that's just an excuse to do another one and take your time and get it just the way you want it. Run the Dodge body hard and don't worry about it as much! I just did a Silverado body so I don't have to run my Grave Robber all the time since I spent so much time on it doing all the chrome trims and such.

The body I want to hang on to:

And the body I will actually bash with, I like the truck bodies since you can have an opening for the engine and access to the starter and fuel tank:

I have revised that engine cover mount since then. I lowered the CF piece and used bolts instead of the old body mount, to mount it. Now it looks straight too LOL. I will post some pics of it in another thread when I get some pics.

Looks good to me Bob. That's pretty good for your first time. Pro painters didn't start out as pros, they learned as they went and from their mistakes. Besides, it came out lookin more like a bowling ball paint job. A= in my book for a first timers.

I like the bowling ball reference!

The actual intent was to look like my old Dodge Ram - the royal blue, with the blacked out windows, and the decals (I didnt have the decals on my Ram LOL)

The plan was to apply the decals, then the blue paint, back that in white (so the black wouldn't bleed through when I did the windows) then black out the windows. Since the decals are dark to begin with, I didn't want to darken them any more by putting black backing on it 🙁 Oh well - next time!

Thanks for the reassurance though - it was surprisingly fun - I think once the weather warms up, I might try another one. I have one here at the house that got from Alex for Xmas that I have been thinking up some cool ideas for... I also saw a garbage truck body there that would be fun just out of general principals 🙂
