Just bought my son a savage 25 I was wondering how long this engine will last. It was used when we got it. It only has had about 15 tanks of fuel through it.

Hopefully it is true that there was only 15 tanks through the motor! If so you should with a good tune and placeing the piston at bottom dead center after every run (when you put it up or shut it down after running each time) will last at least 6+ gallons of fuel...now that being said is ideal. There are several aftermarket motors that are made of better quality materials that will last alot longer. The stock motors in Savages are considered "sport" or "rtr" mills that are cost effective to the manufacturer to sell in a package...obviuosly not the best choice but far from the worst. If down the road you want more power or longevity I would suggest you talk to purenitro on this forum. He is a pro modder and very helpfull and informative. You might want to stop by his web site too www.extremercmods.com

I hope I answered your question some, if not hang around and you'll get alot of help soon!

it keeps the engine at the lowest point of compression. i would imagine that any point with both intake and exhaust ports open would work just as good.

even running a tad on the rich side might help. i had 4-5 gallons on my f4.6 when it let go. but that was due to a manufacturer defect. it still had good pinch (clearance between piston and cylinder walls) but the crank snapped.

overall as long as you don't beat the crap out of it, it should last a good bit.

sorry bottom dead center

so when theh cylinder cools it dosnt compress against the piston. also prevents you from turning it over with a dry cylinder. I would also put about 10 drops of so of After run oil through the carb at the end of each day of use prior to storage. you can use marvell mystery oil for this also.

10 dropps is to much just for imo a few drops down the glow plug hole and few down the carb is all thats needed don't want to much oil in there creates friction

Yes 3 drops is all you need. 10 makes for hard starts and shortened glow plug life.

No one has explained that the cylinder or Sleeve of a glow mill is tapered its not like a car mill. It has a tight clearance at the top and not at the bottom. If you let it cool at the top and it will reshape the sleeve expanding the "pinch" and take life off the motor.

i didnt know it was tapered. :duh: learn something new every day. :resp:

I have +- 6 gal on my f4.6 and she shows no signs killin over.
I'm a firm believer in maintance, piston on bottom, after run oil, ect, ect.
treat your mill like a toy, and it will last about as long as one.
treat it right and she'll be around a long time. peace
BTW, welcome to the forum.
